Happy Constitution day, everyone! Today, September 17th, 2021 is the day we celebrate the ratification of the United States Constitution: the law of the land. The Constitution was written by the founding fathers at the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia and signed into effect by 39 delegates on September 17th, 1787. Congress marked September 17th Constitution Day by law in 2004 and mandated for all public schools to implement constitutional education into existing course material. As occupants of the land, it is crucial for us to understand our rights as well as limits. Use this day to brush up on your constitutional knowledge! Educational sites are located on the voting rights page of our website.

Today is also observed as National Citizenship Day or " I Am an American Day!" On this day, we celebrate those who have become citizens of the United States over the course of their life. "I Am an American Day" has been observed since 1940 by congress but Citizenship day was officially signed into law by President Harry Truman in February of 1952. Being a U.S citizen not only means reaping benefits, but also taking on responsibilities. Citizens must play their part in the betterment of this country by taking advantage of their constitutional rights. Make sure to recognize your own rights and put them into action! See our voting rights page for more information.
