Volunteer: Saturday Morning Respite Buddy – August Event

Give parents a morning to recharge while creating a fun and memorable experience for a child or sibling.

Embrace Special Needs Ministry hosts monthly respite events for families impacted by disability, providing children with a safe, engaging environment while parents enjoy a few hours of rest.

As a Respite Buddy, you'll be paired one-on-one with a child with a disability or their sibling (ages 3–11) for a morning filled with fun, friendship, and encouragement. During our August event, we'll enjoy water slides, a dance party, snacks, and a movie.

Volunteers should wear comfortable clothing that can get wet, as you'll likely join in—or at least get splashed! Breakfast and a brief volunteer orientation will be provided before the event begins.

This opportunity is perfect for students interested in special education, therapy, psychology, social work, ministry, nursing, or anyone who enjoys working with children and wants to make a meaningful impact.

All volunteers must complete Brentwood Baptist Church's volunteer onboarding process, including a background check, prior to serving. If you're interested, we'd love to help you get started.

Volunteer: Letters to Seniors - December 2026

Help us bring some cheer to isolated seniors, seniors in nursing homes and/or disabled individuals in our communities by sending them heartfelt letters. We are looking for uplifting letters that will bring their recipients some joy!

This month we are looking for letters or cards around the theme of Winter/Holiday wishes. You can incorporate the theme through art, by making your own themed cards and within the message of your letter.

If you are interested in sending letters and/or art to seniors in the community, please sign up below and include in your response (in the notes) how many letters you would like to write. I will contact you with specific instructions for the letters and the address to send them to. Children are welcome to contribute (an adult is required for minors to sign up).

We are looking to have this round of letters completed and received by their recipients by 12/31/2025. Please allow a couple of days for mailing and distribution. If you are mailing letters for a specific holiday and would like them to arrive and be distributed before then, please mail the letters at least 1.5 weeks prior. For example, Christmas letters should be mailed at the latest by December 13th, so that staff at the facility have enough time to distribute the letters to the residents.

What do you need to provide? Volunteers will be required to have their own materials for the letters and any additional artwork you'd like to add, as well as stamps to mail the letters on hand (or you must be able to take them to the post office). I will try my best to provide you with one address for your letters so you can mail them together in a large envelope.

Need your service hours confirmed? Please track and log the actual time you spent working on the letters/cards here in the volunteer portal AND submit pictures of your letters as proof. Please note that we do NOT assign a specific number of letters per hour. Please check with your institution if they have specific requirements of how many letters you need to complete to get your hours approved.

Thank you so much for considering this opportunity!

Dear Potential Volunteer,

Due to the ongoing COVID 19 pandemic, we still recommend that you consider volunteering virtually rather than in person. In fact, some in-person volunteer opportunities have been cancelled or scaled back in response to concerns over the virus. If you are considering volunteering for this Need, please be sure and contact the agency directly before signing up to make sure that the opportunity is still scheduled, and follow all of the agency’s and Belmont’s COVID Protocols and the  CDC’s Guidelines to protect yourself and others.

If you choose to volunteer in person, you agree that you understand the associated risks and accept them.

For information about Virtual Volunteering, please check out Belmont University Office of Service-Learning

Stay safe and well!

Volunteer: First Day Welcome Party for Students @ H. G. Hill Middle School

Hello,

Can you believe school starts in just 8 days?

Per H.G. Hill tradition, we would love to invite our partners to come and help us welcome all of our students back to school Tuesday morning next week, everyone's first day back.

Being a part of the welcome team means cheering for students as they get off the bus, being a smiling face as they enter the building, and helping new students (6th graders and transfer students) find their classrooms and know where to go! Middle schoolers are full of emotions on the first day, and we want to be sure H.G. Hill is a welcoming place for everyone and that no one feels lost on Day 1.

If you (or a group from your organization) are able to support this initiative, your attendance will be needed from 8:15-9:15am on Tuesday, August 11th. Upon arrival, all volunteers will give their ID to the front desk staff so that they can use the Raptor Rapid Background Check system, then I will help assign people to different spots in front of the school and in the lobby to support as students arrive as early as 8:30am.

For additional questions, please contact Community Achieves Site Manager Kara (Ellis) Yeager at Kara.Ellis@mnps.org

Volunteer: Foster a Dog

Missing your dog back home? We've got the next best thing.

Being away at school often means being away from your four-legged best friend, too. If you're missing your daily walks, tail wags, and puppy cuddles, fostering a dog through Pawster is a meaningful way to fill that gap while helping a family in need.

Pawster provides everything you need, including training, supplies, veterinary care, and transportation. You provide the belly rubs, walks, treats, and a safe place to stay.

Fostering is flexible enough to fit a college schedule. There's no long-term commitment, and you can earn volunteer hours simply by opening your home to a dog who needs temporary care.

Sign up here

When you foster with Pawster, you're helping more than just a dog. Pawster specializes in Crisis Foster Care, which means your foster dog already has a loving owner who is temporarily unable to care for them. You'll give them a safe, caring home until they're ready to be reunited. While your information remains confidential, Pawster fosters often say the most rewarding moment is watching their foster dog return home to the family that loves them.

Whether you're missing your dog from home, looking for a reason to get outside between classes, or hoping to make a difference this semester, fostering is a rewarding way to help a pup, and the people who love them.

Sign up today! If you love dogs, you're already qualified to be a Pawster Foster.

Volunteer: Sort Medical Supplies

Project C.U.R.E. collects new, surplus and overstock medical supplies, sorts the items, and ships them to over 135 countries in Africa, South America, and nearly every nation in Central Asia.  We have even shipped supplies to some countries you may not expect like North Korea, Cuba, China, and Russia. Your good work here at home makes a huge impact miles away.

Volunteers will sort supplies in Project C.U.R.E.'s warehouse.  No medical experience is needed, but if you want to become a medical professional this is a great place to familiarize yourself with the consumables and equipment you may eventually use.  There may occasionally be a need to move boxes weighing 20-25 pounds. All volunteers should wear closed toe shoes to this project. This is a great project for a group of friends, co-workers, civic or faith organization. There are opportunities Monday-Saturday.

Please email jasonhayes@projectcure.org or call 615-238-7548 to schedule a time for your group to volunteer.
