Needs From: Belmont Office of Community-Engaged Learning and Service

The Set-Up team get us organized for the day! Duties might include setting up tables & activities, getting the sound and the event stage set up, putting out signs, picking up litter, and/or distributing balloons.

The first shift will begin at 10:30, the second at 11:30. A pizza lunch will be provided.

Volunteers will monitor the book table for Family Literacy Day. Kids will get to come pick a book to take home before they leave, and so volunteers will help them as they come.

Grab some friends and get creative!

Volunteers will work in groups to prepare a reading circle for Family Literacy Day. The group will choose a theme, bring books to match the theme, and read with pre-K through 6th graders from Nashville public schools and the community during Family Literacy Day.

Reading Circles will happen continuously from 1-4pm. Individual volunteers are not required to be present for all three hours, but there should be at least 2-3 people present at each Reading Circle at all times.

Individuals can join day-of reading circles based on themed book groups. However, we encourage you to organize with a group and come prepared with books, decorations, and/or outfits to match your chosen theme! If you are volunteering as a part of a group, please indicate that in the response questions.

Volunteers will tear down and load supplies and equipment to be returned to Belmont, and make sure Rose Park and Easley Center are clean before leaving. This job will include putting away tables, taking down signs, and picking up trash.

Volunteers will assist in running craft & game stations for the children. Craft supplies will be provided, volunteers will need to teach kids how to make the craft and help them out as needed.
