Saddle Up!’s mission is to provide children and youth with disabilities the opportunity to grow and develop through therapeutic, educational and recreational activities with horses. We bring that mission to life by providing a year-round program on our 34-acre farm near Franklin, TN.

Saddle Up! could not operate without the dedicated help of an army of volunteers from our community. There are numerous positions that require a wide variety of talents.  All volunteers MUST attend New Volunteer Training before participating in any of the below listed opportunities.

This volunteer interacts with and helps our special riders. Assigned to a particular rider in a riding lesson, this volunteer helps the rider get the horse ready, helps them get on the horse, and walks next to the rider throughout the mounted portion of the lesson providing support as needed. This is the person most involved with helping our special needs riders. Sidewalkers must be at least 16 years-old and able to walk briskly beside a horse for an average of 30 minutes. There are opportunities to sidewalk on a weekly basis or sub in as a sidewalker on any days when you are available.

This volunteer is in charge of a horse in a riding lesson. They pre-groom the horse before the lesson, help with tacking, and lead the horse throughout the lesson. Most riders who have leaders are unable to fully control their horse. After the lesson, they are responsible for putting the horse back where it needs to go and returning all equipment to the tack room. Leaders are volunteers over the age of 16 and must be able to walk at a fast pace for 30 minutes and jog intermittently during the lesson. They should be very comfortable with horses and react calmly if an incident arises.

The Celebrate Nashville Cultural Festival is the biggest event of the year in Centennial Park! Showcasing over 50 cultures from around the world that call Nashville home; we celebrate through dance, music, visual arts, a children’s area, a Teens United Area, an educational Global Village, artisan shops and an international food bazaar. The event provides an experiential opportunity for Nashvillians to meet neighbors and share our traditions.

On Event Day - report to organizers inside the festival grounds at the Information tents located at the WEST Corner of the Parthenon across the street from the Trolly Stop at the entrance to the Parthenon Parking Lot.The park will be closed to all vehicle traffic for the Celebrate Nashville Festival. Carpooling is encouraged. Shuttles will be running from the HCA Parking lots on Park Plaza.

We are looking for businesses, community groups, civic organizations, clubs, fraternities, sororities, etc. to sponsor recreation activities for inpatient Veterans at the Alvin C. York VA Medical Center in Murfreesboro. Examples of activities could include providing a pizza party, holding a bingo, sponsoring a movie night, etc. Organizations who have sponsored past activities have provided prizes for bingo (such as coupon books that can be used at our on site retail store) and refreshments. Groups sponsoring these activities would also volunteer during the activity. Some tasks could include assisting Veterans with their bingo cards, serving refreshments, pushing patients in wheelchairs to the event location, etc. 

We have various free therapeutic-based programs based on the different ages of our participants. 

Some Example of Programs That We Provide:

Fantastic Friends: (18+) The Fantastic Friends Adult Program meets weekly to provide opportunities for socialization and community involvement, while creating a fun and memorable experience for its participants. Participants work on vocational, communication, and social skills to boost confidence and encourage independence. 

Yoga: Teens and Adults (13+) and Yoga: Kids (8-12): This program promotes healthy habits for a lifetime of wellness through a proactive and routine that integrates physical, mental, and emotional development. This program helps participants develop personal awareness and learn specific strategies to maintain focus and manage emotions and impulses. 

LMNOP: Language, Music, N' Our Peeps (0-3): This program is an interactive and engaging program for young children with Down syndrome and their families. It guides parents and children through learning basic sign language and other forms of communication using music and language-based activities. 

Teentastic (13-18): Focuses on building social skills with friends without Down syndrome by participating in team-based activities in a casual and fun setting. Skill development includes understanding compromise, turn-taking and problem-solving abilities.

GiGi's Kitchen (all age groups): Our GiGi’s Kitchen programs are designed to emphasize the importance of a healthy lifestyle and early exposure to practical cooking skills. Under the guidance of program leaders, participants will engage in activities designed to promote healthy eating habits, kitchen safety awareness, food preparation skills, self-confidence, and social skills by applying learned skills as they prepare and enjoy a shared meal/snack!

As a Wednesday Night Buddy, you'll build a meaningful relationship with a child, student, or adult with disabilities while participating in worship, Bible study, small groups, and community activities. Buddies provide encouragement and support so that every individual can grow in their faith, build friendships, and experience the love of Christ in a welcoming environment.

Volunteers serve from 5:45–7:45 PM alongside experienced leaders in one of our age-based ministries: Preschool, Kids, Students, or Adults. We'll help place you in the classroom or group that best matches your interests and comfort level.

No previous experience is required. We'll provide training, encouragement, and ongoing support as you grow in confidence and build meaningful relationships.

This opportunity is ideal for students exploring careers in special education, occupational therapy, physical therapy, music therapy, art therapy, speech-language pathology, psychology, social work, counseling, nursing, ministry, or other helping professions—but anyone with a heart to serve is welcome.

As a Sunday Morning Buddy, you'll build a meaningful relationship with a child, student, or adult with disabilities by providing encouragement and support during worship and Bible study. FiftyForward has opportunities for volunteers to assist with a wide variety of programming for older adults enrolled in our FiftyForward Friends Adult Day Services Program.  Volunteers are needed to assist staff with bingo, arts and crafts, and karaoke. 

Volunteers help provide engagement and a sense of community for FiftyForward Friends clients. By bringing their own passions and interests to share in the Friends space, volunteers help clients to reconnect with their sense of self.

Enjoy watching our lawn and ridgeline fill with colorful kites this fall at Mill Ridge Park's Bi-Annual Kite Fest. We need your help with a variety of tasks that may include welcoming park visitors, assembling kites, demonstrating proper kite flying etiquette, facilitating lawn games, replenishing snacks and beverages, and post-event cleanup. Instructions and support for volunteers will be available onsite by park staff. Check in upon arrival at the welcome table for specific role information and supplies.

Kite Fest takes place at Mill Ridge Park in Antioch, TN during the spring and fall seasons. The event space will be marked with orange cones, yellow flags, and a Kite Fest sign at the driveway entrance. Please park in the grass along the gravel drive, across from the red barns.

To ensure your safety and comfort, please wear comfortable shoes for grassy, uneven terrain. Prepare for exposure to the sun and bugs (sunscreen and bug spray provided). Snacks and beverages provided to volunteers.

One act of kindness and a peanut butter & jelly sandwich gave birth to Room In The Inn's Winter Shelter program. Now over 40 years later, Room In The Inn still partners with neighboring congregations to provide shelter during the coldest months of the year. Help provide hospitality and kindness by registering and greeting guests for our evening shelter program!

Pawster's mission is to support people during times of crisis, by providing compassionate, temporary care for their pets. A crisis might be hospitalization, housing loss, domestic violence, addiction treatment, natural disaster, or any other situation that leaves a pet owner temporarily unable to care for their pet. When a pet owner is in crisis, Pawster houses their dog or cat in a loving foster home until the owner is ready to be reunited.

Special Olympics Tennessee Fitness Program is a wellness initiative focused on fitness, nutrition, and mental health for teens and adults (ages 13+) with intellectual disabilities. Through goal-setting and measurable outcomes, we aim to empower athletes to take control of their health and reduce the disparities often faced by individuals with intellectual disabilities.

One of our key programs, Train 4 Life, is a 12-week fitness, nutrition, and wellness series. Each session lasts 60 minutes and is designed to help athletes build healthy habits in a supportive, inclusive environment. Weekly workout sessions starting August 24th through November 14th. ABOUT THE STORE: The Store operates as a free grocery store allowing people to shop for their basic needs. Our mission is to nourish communities and cultivate hope by providing nutritious food choices and access to supportive services in a dignified, loving environment. This volunteer opportunity will allow you to make a tangible impact upon the local community. You'll be helping provide wholesome food to families and the food insecure in a welcoming environment while protecting dignity and fostering hope.

GARDEN HELPERS: The Store has partnered with the Edgehill Community Gardens and has a dedicated garden plot for us to grow produce. We use this to stock our fresh produce section. We are looking for volunteers who can help with general garden bed maintenance, which could include weeding, tilling, planting, watering, harvesting and other miscellaneous garden tasks.

Abe's Garden Community is a senior community that offers living options for Independent Living, Assisted Living and Memory Support individuals. We welcome volunteers who have a commitment to making a difference, are dependable and consistent, and who understand the value of a visit with the elderly.

Currently, along with our other posted needs, we are seeking volunteers who would like to lead or co-lead exercise and fitness groups. Many groups will be seated, but there is some interest in gentle/careful standing movements. Chair dancing, gentle stretching, dance fitness, tai chi, and yoga are all activities that spark our residents' interest. We also have exercise bands, small weights, and a small gym that can be utilized! We are open to any and all new group ideas, too!

We provide 4 hours of respite time to families with special needs.  When you volunteer for an evening, you will be partnered 1:1 with either a friend with special needs or a sibling.  While we plan the evening and we are together the whole time, you will be with your buddy for the evening.  We do provide a meal as a thank you to volunteers.

Background check and training videos MUST be completed before you can attend a night.

ROLES: We are dependent on an excited and passionate volunteer base to help our customers shop. These volunteer shifts will mainly involve checking people out at the register, ensuring customers do not exceed specified item limits, bagging their groceries in a timely and efficient manner, and escorting customers to their vehicles with their groceries. At the start of the shift, you will have an orientation and brief training; to ensure that we can process as many customers as possible, please be on time. During this shift you may also be greeting customers at check-in, helping people with questions while they shop, cleaning and tidying, stocking shelves and produce, unloading pallets, or other miscellaneous tasks. You will be able to take a break during your shift, so you are welcome to bring a snack and drink for break time.

The Kidsville Family Festival is a fun and free festival in Centennial Park! We need help with logistics, setup, teardown and collecting Centennial Park surveys during the event!

2. Drive to Cumberland View Apartments (2424 25th Ave. N by building 13) where you will help unload donated groceries, help set up tables, and distribute groceries to the community members. After everyone has received food you will tear down, pick up, and load any extra food back on the food truck. 

3. After food has been distributed, please help clean up and reload the food truck.

We’re seeking mentors who can commit to one day a week, Monday–Friday, to have lunch with a student and serve as a positive, caring adult in their life. Volunteers choose the day that works best for their schedule, and we’ll match each volunteer with a student buddy to build a meaningful mentoring relationship.

Do you want to help an immigrant learn English? Are you interested in building cross-cultural relationships?

Our ELL volunteer tutors are matched with a student learning English based on availability, interests, and preferences including gender, skill-level, and more. Tutors can choose to be an online-only volunteer or a hybrid volunteer. Online-only volunteers will meet a learner online via Zoom. Hybrid volunteers will meet in person at a public place, like a library or coffee shop, and online via Zoom when needed. NALC will assist the tutor and learner in finding a suitable meeting place. Tutors use an online English curriculum and learning management system, Burlington English, to deliver high-quality English lessons to learners. Other supplemental materials may be used.

The Build Up Foundation (BUF) is seeking Belmont University students to volunteer as ACT/SAT tutors and mentors for Middle Tennessee students.

Volunteers will work with students in a group-based ACT/SAT preparation program focused on strengthening academic skills, test-taking strategies, confidence, and college readiness. Tutors may assist with Math, English, Reading, or Science based on their strengths and comfort level.

Who We Need: College students who are comfortable assisting with ACT/SAT subjects and enjoy working with youth.

No professional tutoring experience is required. BUF will provide the curriculum, materials, and guidance needed to work with students.

Do you find Medicare interesting?

Would you enjoy being a popular resource on all things Medicare for your friends, family and the community?

Then this opportunity is for you! Volunteers with the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) will learn how to break up the complicated issue of Medicare into bite size pieces for others and provide assistance to them in choosing the Medicare plans and assistance options (if applicable) that are right for them. You will learn to provide unbiased and accurate information to anyone you assist. 

SHIP Volunteers will be able to give clients peace of mind and can witness first-hand the impact they are making in the beneficiary's life with the information they provide. 

Volunteers who'd like to attend events to share Medicare information and do plan comparisons or administrative work for the program but NO direct client counseling there is the option to attend just up to the second-class session.

Any volunteer who would like to be a full counselor will need to attend the full curriculum (all three class sessions) as well as participate in individually scheduled mentoring and call shadowing prior to counseling independently. The training classes build on each other, so it is important not to miss a session.

Part of your training is hands-on experience. You can participate in a variety of different events. The event schedule will be provided during the first session. In addition, we will schedule counseling calls for you to observe. You will be asked to provide your availability to shadow counseling calls prior to the start of the cohort. 

We will go over the training schedule with you to determine what level of training and commitment is best for you. Application forms and initial conversation with the Volunteer Manager are required for participation. Join Harpeth Conservancy for a walking cleanup along a creek and recreation area in Ashland City! By removing litter and debris from riparian areas and streams, we’ll help restore streamside habitats for Tennessee’s wildlife while safeguarding water quality.

Together, we’ll collect trash and debris while learning more about how each of us can become lifelong clean water advocates and river stewards.

All cleanup supplies and equipment will be provided. Please wear sturdy closed-toe shoes, long pants, and weather-appropriate clothing. Be sure to bring your own water, snacks, and any medications you may need.

Nations Ministry Center is a local nonprofit that helps refugee families become generationally self-sufficient through a variety of services, including immigration assistance and educational programming. Located in Southeast Nashville, Nations Ministry Center works directly with families in the heart of some of the city's most culturally diverse neighborhoods.  

Nations Academy, a literacy tutoring initiative of Nations Ministry Center, helps refugee children close the literacy gap through targeted language development and homework assistance in a safe and supportive environment using Nashville's Vision for Holistic Youth Development to cultivate growth mindsets, connect social and emotional skills, and grow cognitive skills.

Volunteers are needed to assist refugee youth in the classroom with literacy practice, homework help, and community building. Materials are provided. We'll orient and prepare you for your role. You simply need to show up ready to encourage youth! Scheduled opportunities are available Mondays through Thursdays 3:15-6:15 (elementary classrooms) and 4:00-6:00 (middle school classrooms).

Keep in mind this is not a drop-in opportunity. Volunteers build friendships by volunteering on a consistent, once a week basis and must be scheduled to serve. The best fits for this role are:

Youth Center Volunteer

Purpose of Job:   Support of the Youth Center Staff in their mission to encourage Deaf and hard of hearing students through education, socialization, and healthy activities to be better prepared at school and in life.

The afterschool program is in session Monday, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. The first van leaves at 2:00 p.m., the second at 2:30 p.m., program begins around 3:00 p.m. and goes till 5:30 p.m. **.  After the program the vans take children to the drop off points and arrive back at Bridges at 7:00 p.m. Volunteers who do not ride the van will be able to leave at 5:30/6:00 p.m. Staff can work with you on the number of hours and which days you want to volunteer. The important thing is consistency. Bridges asks for a commitment to a regular schedule for a minimum of one school year August to May.

Qualifications:  Must be willing to learn basic American Sign Language.  Have the ability to work with children with diverse culture and various degrees of deafness. Strong leadership skills, ability to problem solve and must like children! Dependability is a must.  A background check is required by policy.

Orientation and training provided: Volunteer orientations are held three times per year and are required as an overview for Bridges volunteers. Training will be provided on student observation, paperwork, manipulatives, and vehicle safety.

The Down Syndrome Association of Middle TN (DSAMT) organizes The Extra Mile® to celebrate and support individuals with Down syndrome and their families and to promote understanding and acceptance of those with Down syndrome. Approximately 4,000 participants from Middle Tennessee are expected at this year’s walk, making it the largest Down syndrome awareness event in the state and our primary source of funding for our programs. The Extra Mile® will take place on Saturday, October 24, 2026 on the property of the Wilson County Ag Center 175 Peyton Road, Lebanon, TN 37087.

We help neighbors connect to the right person in the right organization fort heir immediate
need, whether it’s housing, immigration, healthcare, job help, or more. We are trusted
connectors to resources, people and, programs. Ideally, but NOT required a resource navigator speaks- Spanish or Arabic to best communicate with many of our neighbors.

How It Works
As a volunteer resource navigator, you will be part of the Comprehensive Care program
at The Branch. You will:
Schedule volunteer shifts with Ashley Smith. The commitment is a minimum of 8
hours a month (that’s either two full volunteer shifts from 10-2 or four, half-time
shifts from either 10-Noon or Noon-2) for at least 3 months.
Attend a training during your first navigator session. You’ll learn about the resources
available to clients, the tools we use to help our clients, and the process to follow
when a neighbor comes to the pantry and has needs beyond food.
You will be at the front desk during food pantry hours. You will talk to clients as they
come into The Branch to fill out paperwork; you’ll go out to their cars to see if they
need help navigating to other resources.
Document all referrals you’ve provided clients (this will be part of the training) on the
same day of your volunteer shift.
At the end of your 3-month commitment, meet with Ashley to discuss your
experience and if you would like to continue for another 3 months, or to take a break
for the next 3 months and then come back for another 3 months.

At the end of every unit, NICE's Adult Education Program hosts a conversation class aimed at providing online students the opportunity to practice English in small groups or one-on-one settings. This is crucial for our students in developing confidence in conversational English.

Each class is facilitated by a trained ESL instructor who will guide volunteers and students through activities and conversation prompts. The class will be held over Zoom and will utilize breakout rooms. Classes can accommodate up to 30 volunteers, so this is a great opportunity for group volunteering.

Join Preston Taylor Ministries in guiding children to uncover their God-given potential. Your weekly time and encouragement can help students realize the gifts that God has placed inside of them.

After a thorough onboarding and interview process, we will match you with an elementary-aged student from our program. Once assigned, you will meet with the student once a week at their school to eat lunch together or at their afterschool site to play games and/or do a bible study, and build a positive relationship. Days and times are flexible, depending on the mentoring program selected!

Volunteers help greet patrons, answer questions, give directions, collect donations, and distribute surveys. Some volunteers will have specialized assignments helping with merchandise or concessions sales.

Volunteers should arrive by 5:00 p.m. before their scheduled performance and plan to stay until after intermission. You can sign up to volunteer for a single night, multiple nights or the entire run. Volunteers who work multiple nights are extremely valuable as they get to know the routine and make everything run more smoothly.

At the end of every unit, NICE's Adult Education Program hosts a community conversation class aimed at providing students the opportunity to practice English in small groups or one-on-one settings. This is crucial for our students in developing confidence in conversational English.

Each class is facilitated by an ESL instructor who will provide volunteers and students with conversation prompts. Classes can accommodate 30-40 volunteers at each site, so this is a great opportunity for group volunteering.

Adult English classes are held at several sites throughout Nashville.  Providing childcare on-site removes barriers to attendance and allows our adult students the chance to continue their education.

The Women's Sew & Chat is a 6 week long class for refugee and immigrant women focused on building community, strengthening connection and providing health education. Each class will be led by a sewing instructor and include a tea break where the NICE team will provide vital information on navigating healthcare, managing personal health and caring your mental well-being.

Join Daybreak Arts as a Studio Volunteer! Volunteers will host weekly or bi-weekly studio hours at our Dickerson Pike studio, where our artists gather to create and connect.

We are looking for 2-3 volunteers to support our school store program.

Throughout the weeks, students earn rewards for demonstrating positive behavior and meeting school expectations. Each week, they have the opportunity to redeem those rewards through our school store.

Volunteers will help organize inventory and fulfill student orders, playing an important role in recognizing and celebrating student success. Help us man the student incentive store, and see the joy on students' faces as they turn in their rewards for school store items!

TIME: 9:00AM -12:00PM

DATE: Weekly, on Thursdays

Volunteers should park in the front parking lot and must sign in at the front office with valid ID. Volunteers will then be greeted by a school representative who will meet them and escort them to the school store fulfillment station.

Wright Middle School is seeking volunteers to support their monthly Workshop Wednesday sessions! This is an opportunity for partners to provide real-world experiences in the classroom while teachers receive professional development training to enhance their classroom skills.

Join Nashville Public Library for a hands-on organizing project that helps create a welcoming and accessible space for young readers!

Volunteers will work alongside library staff to organize and prepare materials in the Main Library Children’s Department. This is a great opportunity for groups, teams, and community organizations looking to make a meaningful impact through hands-on service.

Join the Healing Arts Project Inc. HAPI by supporting our Marketing and Social Media efforts. If you have a passion for writing, taking photos, social media, telling stories, and helping spread awareness, then we are looking for you.  This position could be in person or remote. The hours are flexible as well, but the Site Supervisor is only available between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday.  We prefer someone to do at least 3 hours a week but would welcome more. 

HAPI provides free classes taught by a professional artist to a person with mental illness.  Additionally, HAPI encourages and advances HAPI artists by curating, managing, and promoting public exhibitions across Tennessee.  Exhibits close to peer support centers allow artists and their peers to view their art publicly.  Public display of their work builds artists' confidence and pride in their abilities and brings a new degree of respect and support from their family and friends.

Quality Assurance: Verify data entries for completeness, correctness, and adherence to established standards. Identify and rectify any discrepancies promptly.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills; adept at building relationships with key constituencies.

Overview: We seek a friendly and reliable volunteer/student to assist in our art store once a week. As an Art Store Clerk, you will play a vital role in creating a welcoming environment for customers, supporting sales, and maintaining the store’s appearance.

Key Responsibilities:

Customer Service: Greet customers warmly, assist with inquiries, and provide information about the artworks and artists.

Sales Transactions: Handle sales transactions, including cash and credit card payments, and issue receipts.

Manage logistics, including venue selection, vendor coordination, and event timelines. Ensure seamless execution of the annual Phoenix art gala and other fundraising events.

2. Fundraising Strategy: Develop creative fundraising strategies to exceed financial goals. Engage with donors, sponsors, and community partners to secure support. Leverage the $20 for 20 years campaign to drive donations and awareness.

3. Community Relations: Represent HAPI at community events, networking functions, and donor meetings. Cultivate relationships with potential donors and sponsors. Promote HAPI’s mission and impact within your network.

4. Marketing and Outreach: Collaborate with the marketing team to create promotional materials for events. Utilize social media, newsletters, and other channels to reach a wider audience. Encourage community participation and engagement.

The Positive Path Tour is a mentorship initiative designed to support justice-involved youth by providing guidance, encouragement, and real-life examples of growth and resilience. Mentors commit to donating at least two hours per week to build consistent, supportive relationships with youth, helping them explore positive alternatives and develop life skills. Through one-on-one sessions, group discussions, and structured activities, mentors serve as role models of integrity and accountability, encouraging youth to pursue education, employment, and personal development. No prior experience is required—just a commitment to show up, listen, and walk alongside young people on their journey toward a better future.

Make a meaningful impact in just a few hours a month. As a Big in our Site-Based Program, you’ll be matched with a local student (“Little”) based on shared interests and personality, making it easy to connect and build a genuine relationship.

What You’ll Do:

Meet with your Little 2–3 times per month during an after-school program or school day

Play games, help with homework, or just spend time talking

Encourage your Little’s confidence and curiosity
