The Organization for Autism Research seeks volunteers with business leadership and development experience to help our newest initiative, the Hire Autism Regional Ambassador program.

Regional Ambassadors work to help us expand our network of employer partners and community partners and increase our community involvement and engagement to expand the employment opportunities available to autistic job seekers across the nation. The expected volunteer commitment is 1-2 hours per week for 6-12 months, with the goal of onboarding at least 2-3 new companies each month.

Virtual training is provided, and Ambassadors have the option to enroll in our Autism-Friendly Employer Training, a voluntary 3-hour virtual training program that contains information on inclusive job descriptions, interviewing autistic candidates, and best practices for managing, training, and onboarding.

Do you want to directly help adults with autism get a job? Job seekers with autism are among the many unemployed right now facing extra challenges and can use your help! Apply today at https://www.hireautism.org/navigator-application/ We are looking for volunteers with business, management, and human resources experience to serve as Hire Autism Navigators and help autistic adults refine their resumes and cover letters and prepare for job interviews. The expected volunteer commitment is 1-2 hours per week for three months. Familiarity with autism is a plus, but it is not a prerequisite. Volunteers must complete our Navigator training and successfully pass a background check before being eligible to begin working with a Hire Autism job seeker. The ideal volunteer will have a record of success in their professional career, excellent verbal and written communication skills, a commitment to Hire Autism’s mission, and the desire to serve as a positive role model. Duties and Responsibilities: Conduct weekly phone/video call with an assigned job seeker Provide feedback in the form of comments on the job seeker’s resume and cover letter Help job seeker identify and search for jobs commensurate with their skills and qualifications Support job seeker with interview preparation Answer general job search questions and teach basic employment-related skills Document and report progress to Hire Autism staff on a biweekly basis Promote job seeker’s autonomy and independence by embracing a “do-it-with, not do-it-for” coaching style Requirements: 10+ years of leadership, management, HR, or related experience Ability to pass a criminal background check Experience as a business owner, hiring manager, or similar Competence in Google Docs, online searching, and virtual communication Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Potential volunteers must attend two Zoom trainings (first an orientation training, then a Burlington English training) led by NALC staff before being matched with a learner. Training is provided via Zoom only: in-person training is not currently available.

Support in sharing the work of Characters of Character to various platforms to bring awareness to the organization.

Characters of Character is shared nation wide. Our focus is in Tennessee, Illinois and Texas where we donate Superhero activity boxes to Children's Hospitals. These activity boxes include an activity book, water color paints and brush, an easel, a canvas that says I AM SUPER, crayons, a character lanyard, superhero mask and stickers, and an autographed greeting card to the child patient.

You may have family or friends in these states who you can share our project with? Word of mouth is powerful and we work tirelessly raising funds to be able to donate these. Looking for donations and sponsors to support these boxes. Would you like to make phone calls to ask for such? Are you an advocate to make a difference in the life of a child?

We'll provide you a script for the phone calls and information as needed.

Volunteering with us will help fulfill your service hours and do your heart good if you believe in our mission of providing a firm foundation for children to establish strong civic values. This looks different today because we are working with Children's Hospitals.

You can also share us with elementary staff to let them know about our organization. Our newsletters offer FREE content to use in a classroom, too.

A time commitment would be 1-5 hours a week based on your capacity
to be involved. YOUR voice matters and you'll be building a platform for our children, our future leaders of tomorrow.

We have an immediate need for auxiliary volunteers. It would be helping with cleaning cages, dishes, laundry or food prep. Individuals who are eager for more can become an animal care technician. This requires training and commitment to be able to care for and handle animals. We also have many other opportunities for individuals to help with depending on their interests and abilities. Please reach out to Christina Young at opievolunteer@gmail.com. This is a great opportunity to gain hands on experience with wildlife rehabilitation and help save precious wild lives around us.

One by One is looking for women to volunteer to serve as mentors to pregnant and new moms. We provide all of your training at no cost. We match you to one mom. You will talk/text with your mom weekly and meet with her monthly throughout her pregnancy and until her child turns one. We provide you with the curriculum to discuss at each meeting at no cost. Our curriculum covers baby health, wellness, development, and safety and includes activities moms can do with their babies to promote bonding and development so that their children will be kindergarten-ready when the time comes. Mentors also share lessons on parenting and life skills and help connect moms to other resources if needed to assist with housing, transportation, education/job training, counseling, etc. We are in need of women willing to mentor moms in-person as well as women willing to mentor moms virtually using platforms such as Facetime, Zoom, etc.
