The 2026 Polar Plunge | Wilson County is a fun and energetic fundraising event where participants take a chilly dip to support Special Olympics Tennessee athletes. We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help make this event a success!

Choose a specific environmental harm and dig deeper into its root causes, effects, and solutions. 

Learn about other successful campaigns that hinged on environmental issues. 

Create an annotated bibliography listing five sources, their publication date and institution, a credibility statement, and a summary of the source and how it will be used in the campaign.

Stages:

Investigation

Survey students on campus, aiming to gather data from a variety of student demographics, on the most-consumed meals/dishes from on campus eateries and dining halls. You are welcome to include your personal favorites on this list.

Preparation and Planning

Reflect on survey results to determine 5-10 commonly consumed meals on your campus and start researching swaps that would enable these to be plant-based.

Research the connection between food and environment independently and with the support of Switch4Good materials and team.

Calculate the environmental savings of each recipe compared to the original recipe that includes animal products.

Research stakeholders on your campus that oversee food offerings, including sustainability dining staff, food procurement folks, and peers that work with your school’s dining committee.

Action/Demonstration

Schedule a meeting with appropriate campus dining members to discuss your recommendations, resources, and recipes. Propose these recipes as menu changes, supporting your conversation with research and thoughtful reasoning. Take notes about this meeting.

ABOUT THIS PERFORMANCE:


A distinct Nashville treasure, Lockeland Strings returns to ECHO by popular demand. This global music collective is a community arts organization that showcases local artists accompanied by string quartet. They have performed internationally and collaborated with the likes of Kacey Musgraves, Lucie Silvas, and more. The evening will also showcase singer-songwriters backed by the Lockeland Strings ensemble. These special guests will be announced at a later date.

What will volunteers do?

Volunteers will help with event set-up and tear-down, checking tickets in the lobby, ushering, and distributing information and surveys about future events, membership and the Centennial Park Conservancy.


Set-up begins at 4:30PM SHARP

Concert is at 7:30 PM (doors open by 7 PM) 

Tear-down starts at the conclusion of the concerts and usually winds up no later than 10:30pm

 

You may come for half shifts if necessary (4:30 till show starts and showtime through teardown) but we would prefer volunteers who can be dedicated to the whole evening, setup, show and teardown. Please let us know in advance if you can't stay for the whole event.

This month we are looking for letters or cards around the theme of Winter/Holiday wishes. You can incorporate the theme through art, by making your own themed cards and within the message of your letter.

If you are interested in sending letters and/or art to seniors in the community, please sign up below and include in your response (in the notes) how many letters you would like to write. I will contact you with specific instructions for the letters and the address to send them to. Children are welcome to contribute (an adult is required for minors to sign up).
 
We are looking to have this round of letters completed and received by their recipients by 12/31/2025. Please allow a couple of days for mailing and distribution. If you are mailing letters for a specific holiday and would like them to arrive and be distributed before then, please mail the letters at least 1.5 weeks prior. For example, Christmas letters should be mailed at the latest by December 13th, so that staff at the facility have enough time to distribute the letters to the residents.
 
What do you need to provide? Volunteers will be required to have their own materials for the letters and any additional artwork you'd like to add, as well as stamps to mail the letters on hand (or you must be able to take them to the post office). I will try my best to provide you with one address for your letters so you can mail them together in a large envelope.

You will not need to assist anyone in the bathroom, but you may color or build with legos or read a book or even push a swing. We share the gospel in all of these ways so that they can learn about God in the way that best suits their learning style.

Volunteer: Conduct TennCare Client Satisfaction Surveys with older adults

Do you enjoy spending time with older adults? Help us conduct client satisfaction surveys either in person at nursing facilities near you or via phone surveys to ensure satisfactory service outcomes. 

What are the surveys for? Each year TennCare contracts with state Area Agencies on Aging and Disability to conduct National Core Indicators Surveys with consumers receiving TennCareare services.  The core indicators are standard measures used across states to access the outcomes of services provided to individuals and families. Indicators address key areas of concern including planning, rights, community inclusion, choice, health and care coordination, safety and relationships.  Each year TennCare looks at the results of these anonymous surveys to improve and enhance services to consumers.

Why should I help? Those conducting the surveys are offering consumers and their families a chance to express their opinions about services received, offer suggestions, and make recommendations to enhance their care and quality of life.

What would I be doing? The surveyor role requires individuals to reach out to consumers by phone or by traveling to nursing facilities to administer the surveys. We will coordinate with you to assign locations that are close to you.  The surveyor will read the questions to each individual and record the responses into a database. This requires the ability to use basic computer skills. Each survey should take from 45 minutes to one hour to complete.

Surveyor Training: TennCare requires that all surveyors complete training. The training is in two parts: a series of self-paced online modules (takes about 2 hours to complete), and a 2.5-hour live training with a GNRC staff member. The live webinar trainings will be scheduled as needed.

When can I volunteer? In person surveys can be conducted during regular visiting hours of the nursing homes. Phone surveys can be conducted during the day or in the early evening hours. You can make your own schedule and choose how many surveys you want to complete. The survey period runs from December 8 through June 30th. 

Where would I volunteer? Clients are located all over Middle Tennessee. Training takes place online and volunteers can work via phone from their own home or be assigned to nursing homes close to them.

FiftyForward Fresh Meals on Wheels delivers healthy meals to the doorsteps of older adults on specific routes in the Nashville community. We are looking for friendly, compassionate volunteers to deliver nutritious meals, create a social connection, and provide weekly check-ins with our clients. 
 
Routes are currently available on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays and include the following neighborhoods to choose from: 12 South, Donelson, Bellevue, Leah Rose Towers (Green Hills), and Trevecca Towers.

Meals are picked up between 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. from FiftyForward Knowles Routes take approximately 60 to 90 minutes to complete, depending on the number of deliveries on the route and time spent with each client (8-10 meals is average).FiftyForward Fresh delivery drivers must complete a background check (paid for by FiftyForward). You can also sign up to be a substitute driver if you are not available for a weekly commitment 

This is a rewarding volunteer opportunity that greatly impacts the health and well-being of older adults experiencing food insecurity. Volunteers also help by creating a community connection that combats loneliness and social isolation.

Volunteers should be able to complete simple "craft" tasks that include scissoring, tying simple knots, and other fine motor skills. Most importantly, volunteers should be comfortable conversing with older adults and encouraging their creativity.

Additional tasks may include:  

Assisting with room set-up or reset  Small clean-ups as necessary  Engaging participants in conversation

We are in need of volunteers on Thursdays in one of our ELL classes at The Branch (6:15-8:15) or at The Southeast Branch of Nashville Public Library (6:00pm-7:45pm). Volunteers are the heartbeat of Cul2vate! Cul2vate can be a wonderful vessel to share your God-given gifts, talents, and skills. There are many different volunteer opportunities, from working on the farm to belonging to a prayer group to helping with data entry.

Transportation is a challenge for many seniors in Nashville and providing a ride is a meaningful way to help our older neighbors get where they need to go. Senior Ride Nashville keeps older adults connected to their community by providing affordable and assisted transportation for our riders. We are looking for caring, reliable volunteer drivers to provide transportation to medical appointments, grocery stores, beauty/barber shops, community centers and more!  Your time can make a big difference in the lives of older adults in Nashville.

SRN drivers use their own vehicles and select rides based on their availability, location, and interest using an online scheduling tool. Volunteer drivers must complete an orientation and a background and motor vehicle record check before driving responsibilities begin. Records are checked on a recurring basis.

Saddle Up! could not operate without the dedicated help of an army of volunteers from our community. There are numerous positions that require a wide variety of talents.  All volunteers MUST attend New Volunteer Training before participating in any of the below listed opportunities.

Sidewalkers

This volunteer interacts with and helps our special riders. Assigned to a particular rider in a riding lesson, this volunteer helps the rider get the horse ready, helps them get on the horse, and walks next to the rider throughout the mounted portion of the lesson providing support as needed. This is the person most involved with helping our special needs riders. Sidewalkers must be at least 16 years-old and able to walk briskly beside a horse for an average of 30 minutes. There are opportunities to sidewalk on a weekly basis or sub in as a sidewalker on any days when you are available.

 

Leaders* (weekly commitment for the duration of a program session)

This volunteer is in charge of a horse in a riding lesson. They pre-groom the horse before the lesson, help with tacking, and lead the horse throughout the lesson. Most riders who have leaders are unable to fully control their horse. After the lesson, they are responsible for putting the horse back where it needs to go and returning all equipment to the tack room. Leaders are volunteers over the age of 16 and must be able to walk at a fast pace for 30 minutes and jog intermittently during the lesson. They should be very comfortable with horses and react calmly if an incident arises.
