Volunteer: 2026 Polar Plunge | Cheatham County

Join us for one of the coolest events of the year - literally! The 2026 Polar Plunge | Cheatham County is a fun and energetic fundraising event where participants take a chilly dip to support Special Olympics Tennessee athletes. We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help make this event a success!

Volunteer roles include: 

Event Set-Up from 9a - 11a  Moving tables & chairs to event tents, Distribute directional signage, Set up tents, Hang sponsor banners + Cheer on plungers Hospitality from 10a - 2p Welcome attendees and spreading good vibes, Maintain and distribute food and beverage, Restocking hospitality supplies, Assisting with athlete/participant needs in the hospitality space and Cheer on plungers!   Registration from 11a - 1p  Check in all plungers (online & walk-in registrations), Receiving, counting and recording of monies being turned in by plungers, Data entry + Cheer on plungers!   Tear-Down 1p - 3p Packing of event supplies, Taking down tables & chairs, Tear down tents + Take down sponsor banners

No experience needed, just bring your energy and enthusiasm! 

What to Know Before You Arrive: 

Arrive 5 minutes early and check in at the registration desk  Please bring a photo ID for check-in - you will reserve a volunteer shirt  This event will be outdoors *Be aware of the weather and dress accordingly Free parking will be available on site. Recommend wearing athletic attire and comfortable, closed-toe shoes, as you'll be on your feet for most of the event  Bring a filled water bottle and stay hydrated  Volunteers under age 16 must be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or chaperone. Please contact the event coordinator to register them

Hurricane season is heating up - and so is the chance to make a real impact!

Disasters are happening more often and hitting harder, which means the need for trained volunteers is more important than ever. If you've ever thought about stepping up and supporting Red Cross shelters, whether here in Tennessee or across the country, now’s the perfect time to get ready.

Volunteer now to be a shelter hero!

Here's what you'll do:

Provide comfort and support to people who have been displaced from their homes during disasters Assist with various tasks at the shelter including welcoming guests, registration, serving meals and providing information/resources Receive free online training to prepare you for the role

Qualifications:

Must be willing and able to volunteer in-person at disaster shelters before, during and/or after a disaster Capable of meeting physical requirements such as lifting 20 pounds, sitting or standing for 2-hour periods, walking 2 miles during a shift and climbing stairs For local disasters, commit to multiple shifts lasting 4-12 hours each. If you choose to work disasters outside your area, commit to 14 consecutive days with shifts of 8 or 12 hours Adaptability and patience to work in a dynamic environment where priorities may change frequently

Come deliver meals and have the best lunch date ever! 

Over 3,000 seniors in Cheatham, Dickson, Houston, Humphreys, Montgomery, Robertson, Rutherford, Stewart, Sumner, Trousdale, Williamson, and Wilson Counties would love to meet you.

Volunteers are often the only person seniors may see daily so you will truly make a difference for a lonely senior!

You are welcome to bring your children to deliver the meals, if desired. 

Please note that Meals-on-Wheels Volunteers pack and deliver the lunches on weekdays only. Meals are packed and delivered Monday through Friday around 10:30am. We currently do NOT have evening or weekend opportunities available. We only accept volunteers who can make an ongoing commitment and are unable to accomodate one-time volunteers at this time.
