As Book'em prepares for another exciting semester of serving children across Nashville, we're recruiting for two Fall 2026 internship opportunities.

This fall, we're seeking:

Both positions are approximately 15 hours per week, hybrid, and provide meaningful hands-on experience supporting children's literacy initiatives across Nashville. These are substantive internships that offer students opportunities to build their portfolios, gain professional mentorship, and create real-world work in a collaborative nonprofit environment.

Interested in a career in special education, occupational therapy, social sciences, or psychology? We are seeking peer mentors and volunteers to support our program both on-site and through our community partnerships, with opportunities available Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. In this role, you will participate alongside trainees to model positive behaviors, encourage engagement, and help foster communication, problem-solving, and social connections within an inclusive, supportive environment.

Volunteers can help work on varieties of tasks such as identifying hosting groups or drop-off locations, dates, and promoting such events.

After a thorough onboarding and interview process, we will match you with an elementary-aged student from our program. Once assigned, you will meet with the student once a week at their school to eat lunch together or at their afterschool site to play games and/or do a bible study, and build a positive relationship. Abe's Garden Community is a senior community that offers living options for Independent Living, Assisted Living and Memory Support individuals. We welcome volunteers who have a commitment to making a difference, are dependable and consistent, and who understand the value of a visit with the elderly.

Currently, along with our other posted needs, we are seeking volunteers who would like to lead/teach art classes. Any medium, subject matter, and skill level is welcome. Materials and facilities will be provided. Ideally, classes will range from 30 minutes to an hour.

Vendor Sales Office (Weekdays and Saturday Morning)

A fantastic place to connect and engage with our unhoused Nashville Neighbor. 

 Get to know our vendors!! Our vendor sales office is where vendors come to purchase papers.  This office, open six days a week is almost entirely volunteer-driven. It takes two volunteers to fully staff each shift. Volunteer responsibilities include invoicing, cashiering, and distributing papers. Vendor office volunteer roles are high-commitment positions. We are looking for individuals that can commit to consistently serving at least one shift each week.  A shift can be 2.5 hours (1/2 day) or 5 hours (full day).We treat our volunteers like staff and look for individuals that will treat their position with the same respect they would a job (e.g. giving ample notice if you cannot make a shift, arriving early, etc.)

2. Fundraising Strategy: Develop creative fundraising strategies to exceed financial goals. Engage with donors, sponsors, and community partners to secure support. Leverage the $20 for 20 years campaign to drive donations and awareness.

3. Community Relations: Represent HAPI at community events, networking functions, and donor meetings. Cultivate relationships with potential donors and sponsors. Promote HAPI’s mission and impact within your network.

4. Marketing and Outreach: Collaborate with the marketing team to create promotional materials for events. Utilize social media, newsletters, and other channels to reach a wider audience. Encourage community participation and engagement.

5. Volunteer Engagement: Recruit and coordinate volunteers for events. Provide training and support to volunteers. Recognize and appreciate volunteer contributions.

Do you have 1 hour that you are willing to give to a student each week? If so, we would love for you to consider becoming a LUNCH BUDDY! 

Lunch Buddies are volunteers who go into a school to meet with a student once a week during the student's lunch period. The volunteer and student have some time together to build a relationship and do various activities together, including playing games, coloring and reading together. 

This is a program where volunteers get to help students see and reach their full potential, because at PTM, we know that close positive relationships help students THRIVE! 

All participating schools are elementary schools in Northwest Nashville (37208 or 37209).

Lunch times range from 10:00am to 1:00pm.

Volunteers will need their own reliable transportation to get to each visit. 

This is the volunteer need we are recruiting for MOST! Our goal at PTM is for every student to have a mentor, and students LOVE having a Lunch Buddy! We are especially in need of male Lunch Buddies as we have many male students asking for a Lunch Buddy and few male mentors!

At Ella's House, we exist to support pregnant and parenting students in Middle Tennessee through housing, community, and mental health and wellness initiatives to provide holistic help--through semesters and trimesters. 

We are looking for students with a heart and passion for helping others. The campus ambassador program is for current college students that are involved on their campus. Campus ambassadors' job is to help spread awareness, educate peers, and recruit new volunteers.

Requirements:

1. Meet with volunteer coordinator at the beginning of the semester to set goals. (Ex. “I want to serve every Wednesday afternoon” or “I want to help plan a mommy mixer”)

2. Actively serve at Ella’s House throughout the year; Minimum is 1x a month.

3. Assist EH staff at your campus’ service fair and the “finals coffee” table on campus.

4. Serve at the annual fundraiser, Night Circus, in early February.

5. Complete end of year survey and nominate 2 peers you think should be an ambassador next year.

Purpose: NICE’s Refugee Benefits program supports recently arrived refugees to effectively use and maintain benefits that they need to support their families. Specifically, we focus on Department of Human Services benefits like SNAP (also known as Food Stamps) and TANF (also known as Families 

First). As well as, public health benefits such as TennCare and WIC. 

Commitment: 

Minimum: 10 hours/week 

Maximum: 15 hours/week

Duties: 

Provide benefits education, making sure that all families resettled with NICE understand their SNAP, TANF, TNCare & WIC benefits. 

Help with the paperwork necessary to get, maintain, and track the benefits that our clients need. 

Assist with planning, organizing, and implementing benefits orientations and other presentations 

Support processes to enroll families in the refugee benefits program 

Support client communications through phone calls and texts 

Organize important documents related to benefits 

Support clients with relevant benefit applications 

Transport clients, where needed 

Share information about benefits at community events 

Assist with program evaluation, through administering surveys

Achieve fluency in intensive case management procedures such as client intake, documentation of referrals, streamlining referral processes, and case closure 

Analyse intake forms, progress forms, and exit forms across all NICE programs for opportunities for mental health referrals and tracking holistic wellbeing outcomes 

Create exit interviews with mental health related information 

Support the compilation of diaspora community connections / networking into a usable resource for NICE staff 

Provide needs assessments of diaspora communities capacity for mental health related information/referrals 

Implement Nashville-Neighbours style program of health-education for higher need clients with chronic disease (asthma, diabetes, etc) 

Streamline administrative needs for health education (health care navigation and maternal health) 

Create and implement organizational/administrative tools for health education service provisions (organizing partner lists, event calendar organization, etc) 

Receive thorough feedback from program managers

Purpose: The Adult Education program supports English language learners as they integrate into life in the US. Through programs like Citizenship Instruction, High School Equivalency, and English literacy courses, the department helps to shape the future for immigrants and refugees across Nashville. As an Adult Education Intern, you will gain valuable experience as you are trained to teach classes,  

implement curriculum, and contribute to administrative processes which support the overall program. In-person availability is required, though there will be opportunities for remote work. 

Commitment: 

Minimum: 10 hours per week

Maximum: 24 hours per week

Tuesday and Thursday availability required, preference for 6PM-8PM availability. The specific schedule to be negotiated with the supervisor. 

Duties/Experiences:The Adult Education program supports English language learners as they integrate into life in the US. As an Adult Education ESL Intern, you will help with all aspects of ESL programming including:

The Positive Path Tour is a mentorship initiative designed to support justice-involved youth by providing guidance, encouragement, and real-life examples of growth and resilience. Mentors commit to donating at least two hours per week to build consistent, supportive relationships with youth, helping them explore positive alternatives and develop life skills. Through one-on-one sessions, group discussions, and structured activities, mentors serve as role models of integrity and accountability, encouraging youth to pursue education, employment, and personal development. No prior experience is required—just a commitment to show up, listen, and walk alongside young people on their journey toward a better future.

Social Media Intern

Nashville International Center for Empowerment, established in 2005, is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) community-based organization dedicated to ensuring refugees and immigrants achieve their full potential now and for generations to come.

We are looking for dedicated and passionate volunteers to help support our mission of guiding refugees as they move on a path from surviving to thriving through our mentorship program.
We'll match you with a client to meet with as a mentor at least once a month for 3-6 months. Mentorship could include opportunities such as helping a client schedule appointments, providing transportation to a store or food bank, or simply sitting in their home to have tea and practice English. 

A background check is required and orientation provided.

Belmont University - Student ALS Ambassador:

As a Student ALS Ambassador, you help inspire others to take action through fundraising and community outreach initiatives. Student Ambassadors are key to helping drive our mission forward, increase awareness, and make a difference in the lives of those touched by ALS.  You will work closely with the local ALS Association Staff Partner to identify ways to grow and reach new audiences to encourage them to take steps with the ALS Community by attending the Walk to Defeat ALS - Nashville. In addition to helping support Advocacy efforts.  Student ALS Ambassador      

Walk to Defeat ALS - Nashville 

- Identify ways to engage with students on Campus. (Tabling events, community awareness/fundraiser nights at local establishments, etc)

- Encourage Students to take action and support the ALS Association’s mission; to make ALS a livable disease and cure it.

- Recruit Student Leaders to form a Walk to Defeat ALS Nashville Team. (I.e. Sorority President be the Team Captain and encourage other sorority sisters to join the team.)

Expectations: 

You will be supported by the local staff partner and have accessibility to contact them as questions or concerns come up. The Staff Partner and Student ALS Ambassador will meet periodically to discuss initiatives, activations, and walk alongside you to grow student engagement.

Belmont University - Student ALS Ambassador:

As a Student ALS Ambassador, you help inspire others to take action through fundraising and community outreach initiatives. Student Ambassadors are key to helping drive our mission forward, increase awareness, and make a difference in the lives of those touched by ALS.  You will work closely with the local ALS Association Staff Partner to identify ways to grow and reach new audiences to encourage them to take steps with the ALS Community by attending the Walk to Defeat ALS - Nashville. In addition to helping support Advocacy efforts.  Student ALS Ambassador      

Walk to Defeat ALS - Nashville 

- Identify ways to engage with students on Campus.(Tabling events, community awareness/fundraiser nights at local establishments, etc)

- Encourage Students to take action and support the ALS Association’s mission; to make ALS a livable disease and cure it.

- Recruit Student Leaders to form a Walk to Defeat ALS Nashville Team. (I.e. Sorority President be the Team Captain and encourage other sorority sisters to join the team.)

Title of Position:Youth NAZA After-School Program Intern  

Purpose: NICE hosts a NAZA-funded after-school program for English Learners that  focuses on building Academic, Literacy, and Social Emotional skills for middle school students. The program uses a positive youth development approach to promote youth leadership, healthy relationships, and instill a positive growth mindset for all learners.  

Commitment: 

Minimum:  15 hours/week 

Maximum: 25 hours/week  

Consistent availability Monday - Friday  between 10am-6pm; specific schedule to be negotiated with supervisor.  

Duties:   

Create an atmosphere of care, trust, and safety by intentionally building  healthy relationships with middle school participants.  

Learn about instructional strategies used with English Learners, especially  those with significant cultural barriers from first generation families.  

Lead activities, such as stations, lessons, games, and special events that   

Encourage skill development Support the NAZA after-school program  

Assist in development of lessons and activities that address student specific  barriers  

Perform research around SIFE specific instructional strategies  

Support volunteers and staff in working directly with students, teachers, and  school administrators to offer quality services aligned with local school and   

classroom goals  

Research and contact local partners to host special events and field trips for  the program  

Assist in gathering data on the impact and effectiveness of the program  

Requirements:  

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs  

Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment  

Demonstrated effective communication skills  

Attention to detail and time management skills  

Preferences:  

• Experience working with diverse populations  

• Interest in child development, education, psychology, social work, nonprofit,  or related field  

Training:Attend an initial orientation meeting with the program manager. Attend ongoing training as required by the supervisor. Participate in mid-semester  and end-of-semester performance evaluations.  

Location:Interns will be placed at one of the following schools as specified by the supervisor: Antioch Middle School, Margaret Allen Middle School, Wright Middle School

Supervisor:This position reports to the Youth Education Program Manager and/or Youth Education site staff.
