What will volunteers be doing at this event?
Volunteers will help increase accessibility in the park by painting a sign that indicates where a public restroom is. We will do so using a stencil, paint brushes, and rollers. While coat(s) are drying, we'll also work to organize and label the inside of the toolshed -- fans of organization will love this event!
What is the community impact of this event?
By letting the public know where free restrooms are, volunteers will directly impact all users of the main park by increasing visibility to park features. Inner toolshed organization will impact Friends of Shelby, as having tools clean and organized streamlines our volunteer program's prep work.
What should volunteers bring to this event?
Please wear clothing that you don't mind getting paint on, including comfortable shoes. All necessary tools, gloves, and materials will be provided, along with sunscreen, bug spray, and extra water. Please bring a water bottle if possible and wear sun protection (hats, sunglasses, etc.).
Accessibility/safety
We will be painting a sign at least 5' off of the ground onto a cinderblock building, so volunteers will need to be able to either reach above their heads or stand on a ladder (provided by Friends of Shelby). Organizing in the toolshed will involve reaching, sweeping, and writing on tape for organization. There is a bathroom located within the same building we will be working/painting, with extra running water.
