Event Details: Join the Compact, Alt Route Meals, Responsible Stewardship, Outshine Adventures, and REI Brentwood for our second annual cleanup of Sevenmile Creek to kick off our volunteer season! Sevenmile Creek is located on a Metro Nashville Flood Buyout Site and as a result, it accumulates a lot of litter from rainfall. At last year's event, we removed over 3,200 pounds of litter from the site! If you'd like to read more about last year's event, click here! Address provided only after signing up to volunteer. This is an on-foot cleanup. All supplies will be provided.

Volunteer Registration: Everyone who volunteers with the Cumberland River Compact must register and create an account in VolunteerHUB. The address of the cleanup will not be provided until you do. Please click the hyperlink to be directed to the cleanup's sign-up page.

Is there a regular volunteer schedule to follow?
From March-October, we typically have a volunteer event almost every Saturday morning or afternoon, with other volunteer opportunities sprinkled through the week based on need. Our three typical volunteer events are on-foot stream cleanups, stream cleanups on kayak, and tree plantings. On occasion we host camping cleanups that involve overnight camping at various state parks -- if you have any ideas, we're all ears!

Wait-- who is the Cumberland River Compact?
The Cumberland River Compact is a 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to enhancing the health and enjoyment of the Cumberland River and its tributaries through action, education and collaboration. Our various projects and initiatives include stream restorations, stormwater flooding and pollution prevention, E-Stem programs for Tennessee teachers and experiential education programs, agricultural impact reduction through River Friendly Farms.

While we are a whole lot of fun, we do have basic rules and guidelines that need to be followed in order to participate in our stewardship.

  • All volunteers must sign Volunteer Waivers to participate in any stewardship event. This includes any additional waivers required by the city and other municipalities, as well as our standard Compact waiver. All waivers are available to sign when registering on VolunteerHUB
  • Cleanup supplies for all volunteer events are provided. We ask that you bring your own water and snacks.
  • Please wear clothes and closed-toed shoes you don't mind getting wet or dirty. If you own waders and/or knee-high waterproof shoes, we encourage wearing those to anyone planning on venturing into the water.
  • We are aware of the possibility of homeless encampments situated near the waterways we clean. We strongly ask that volunteers stay clear of these at cleanups, even if there is trash accumulated around their tents. If we find that any volunteers have harassed or threatened any member of a homeless encampment while volunteering with us, we will ask them to leave immediately and prohibit their involvement in future events.
