Family Literacy Day Reading Circles 2023

Description

Volunteers will work in groups to prepare a reading circle for Family Literacy Day. The group will choose a theme, bring books to match the theme, and read with pre-K through 6th graders from Nashville public schools and the community. Kids will walk around to different groups they want to sit and read with. Volunteers can let the kids pick which book to read, and the kids can choose to either read it out loud to the volunteers or have the volunteers read it to them.

Reading Circles will happen continuously from 1-4pm. Individual volunteers are not required to be present for all three hours, but there should be at least 2-3 people present at each Reading Circle at all times.

If you are volunteering as a part of a team or student org, please indicate that in the response questions.

We also ask that all volunteers attend one of the following 3 volunteer training orientations:

  • Tuesday, March 28 @ 10:00am in Beaman A&B
  • Wednesday, March 29 @ 10:00am in Ayers 5003
  • Thursday, March 30 @ 3:00om Ayers 5003

**Volunteers attending one of the trainings and participating in Family Literacy Day will receive an extra hour of WELL Core credit.**

Specific instructions for those volunteering for Family Literacy Day are available here.
