As an Adult Education Tutor, you will work one-on-one or with small groups of adult learners who are preparing to earn their high school equivalency credential. Our students come from diverse backgrounds and have varying academic skill levels, but many benefit from support in foundational reading, comprehension, writing, and math. Volunteers provide encouragement, guidance, and individualized instruction to help learners build confidence and strengthen the skills needed to achieve their educational goals. No teaching certification is required.
Responsibilities:
- Tutor adult learners in reading, comprehension, writing, and basic math.
- Adapt instruction to meet each learner's individual needs and skill level.
- Encourage learners, celebrate progress, and help build confidence.
- Create a positive, supportive, and welcoming learning environment.
- Communicate with program staff regarding learner progress or any concerns.
Qualifications:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, empathy, and a commitment to helping others succeed.
- Basic proficiency in reading, writing, and math.
- Ability to work respectfully with adults from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
- Previous tutoring or teaching experience is helpful but not required.
