Volunteer: Volunteers Needed for Shopping on the Lawn @ Napier Elementary School

Thank you for helping create a warm and welcoming experience for families at our Third Annual Shopping on the Lawn event! Please sign up for a shift below. Even if you can’t stay for an entire shift, we still welcome—and appreciate—your help. Every bit of support makes a difference!

• Event Prep (Day Before) - April 17th (3:00-6:00pm): Assist with preparing materials and supplies needed for the event. 

• Event Set-Up (Day Of) - April 18th (8:00-10:00am): Help transform the space for the event by placing materials, arranging tables, setting up donations, etc..

• Floater (During Event) - April 18th (10:00am-2:00pm): Serve wherever support is needed most. Tasks may include: tidying throughout the event; running a table or activity; assisting with operations and logistics; providing guidance to families and attendees; etc.

• Tear Down (After Event) - April 18th (1:00-3:00pm): Assist with breaking down the event space, cleaning up, and packaging leftover items that will be picked up by our partners at ThriftSmart.

Volunteer: Extraordinary Friends Adult night out

Join our Extraordinary Friends group of adults  with Down syndrome ages 18+ for a fun night at DSAMT. We will have pizza, karaoke, games and a lot of fun! Volunteers are needed to help supervise participants, coordinate games, and man a karaoke machine. The event will take place at the DSAMT office 1310 Central Court, Hermitage, TN 37076 from 6:30pm - 8:30pm.

Sun and warm temperatures beckon in May, so plan to volunteer outdoors with us.

The Martha O'Bryan Center needs upbeat, positive volunteers to assist in the food pantry. On Mondays and Thursdays, volunteers will be able to help with unloading deliveries. Every day of the week, volunteers will be able to work alongside clients to 'shop' in our food pantry and pick out the items that will serve them the most. Volunteers will also be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and order of the premises, bringing heavier boxes out to client cars.

Volunteer: Invasive Plant Removal - Winter/Spring 2026

Do you love conservation? Want to work outdoors to protect the natural ecosystems of Shelby Park and Bottoms? We need you!

Shelby Park and Bottoms is a natural oasis in the heart of the city. The forests here are a refuge for people and wildlife alike. Our Shelby forests need help: they are being overtaken by invasive plant species. Through our Restore the Forest program, we remove invasive species and replant native species to revitalize a healthy forest ecosystem.

What is the community impact of this event?

Healthy forests are beautiful for park visitors, provide food and shelter for wildlife and make our local ecosystem more resilient by promoting and enhancing growth of native plant species.

What will volunteers be doing at this event?

At this event, we will be uprooting and cutting down honeysuckle and privet plants with weed wrenches, loppers, and hand saws. They will work in small groups under the supervision of experienced staff that will help teach proper plant identification and safe tool usage.

Accessibility:

This event will include hiking while carrying heavy tools over uneven ground, and we will be working off-trail within the woods. Please dress according to the weather. Porta-potties are located a short walk from our worksite, and there should always be ample parking located nearby the worksite.

What to bring?

I recommend bringing your own water bottle and sunscreen. Water, gloves, all necessary tools, and additional water will be provided. Please wear sturdy shoes that are good for gardening (e.g. hiking boots), long socks, and long pants to protect yourselves from sticks and thorns in the forest. If possible, long sleeved shirts can also be helpful for protection, but please dress according to the weather.

Volunteers will rotate among classes with 20-minute rotations within a certain grade level! If you will help us by presenting or providing a speaker, please let your child’s teacher know as soon as possible by returning the attached form so that this special day may be reserved for a fun-filled day of instruction!

Volunteer: Kite Fest at Mill Ridge Park

Enjoy watching our lawn and ridgeline fill with colorful kites this fall at Mill Ridge Park's Bi-Annual Kite Fest. We need your help with a variety of tasks that may include welcoming park visitors, assembling kites, demonstrating proper kite flying etiquette, facilitating lawn games, replenishing snacks and beverages, and post-event cleanup. Instructions and support for volunteers will be available onsite by park staff. Check in upon arrival at the welcome table for specific role information and supplies.

Kite Fest takes place at Mill Ridge Park in Antioch, TN during the spring and fall seasons. The event space will be marked with orange cones, yellow flags, and a Kite Fest sign at the driveway entrance. Please park in the grass along the gravel drive, across from the red barns.

To ensure your safety and comfort, please wear comfortable shoes for grassy, uneven terrain. Prepare for exposure to the sun and bugs (sunscreen and bug spray provided). Snacks and beverages provided to volunteers.

Enjoy watching our lawn and ridgeline fill with colorful kites this fall at Mill Ridge Park's Bi-Annual Kite Fest. We need your help with a variety of tasks that may include welcoming park visitors, assembling kites, demonstrating proper kite flying etiquette, facilitating lawn games, replenishing snacks and beverages, and post-event cleanup. Instructions and support for volunteers will be available onsite by park staff. Check in upon arrival at the welcome table for specific role information and supplies.

Kite Fest takes place at Mill Ridge Park in Antioch, TN during the spring and fall seasons. The event space will be marked with orange cones, yellow flags, and a Kite Fest sign at the driveway entrance. Please park in the grass along the gravel drive, across from the red barns.

To ensure your safety and comfort, please wear comfortable shoes for grassy, uneven terrain. Prepare for exposure to the sun and bugs (sunscreen and bug spray provided). Snacks and beverages provided to volunteers.

Special Olympics Tennessee Fitness Program is a wellness initiative focused on fitness, nutrition, and mental health for teens and adults (ages 13+) with intellectual disabilities. This month we are looking for Spring themed letters and cards. You can incorporate the theme through art, by making your own themed cards and within the message of your letter.

If you are interested in sending letters and/or art to seniors in the community, please sign up below and include in your response (in the notes) how many letters you would like to write. I will contact you with specific instructions for the letters and the address to send them to. Children are welcome to contribute also (an adult is required for minors to sign up).

 
We are looking to have this round of letters completed and received by their recipients by 04/30/2026. Please allow a couple of days for mailing and distribution. 
 
Volunteers will be required to have their own materials for the letters and any additional artwork you'd like to add, as well as stamps to mail the letters on hand (or you must be able to take them to the post office). I will try my best to provide you with one address for your letters so you can mail them together in a large envelope.

We are looking for uplifting letters that will bring their recipients some joy!

This month we are looking for Flower Power themed letters and cards. You can incorporate the theme through art, by making your own themed cards and within the message of your letter.

If you are interested in sending letters and/or art to seniors in the community, please sign up below and include in your response (in the notes) how many letters you would like to write. Students on the new WELL Core pathway can earn up to 3 credits by submitting activity tasks on Suitable after serving. Volunteer: Visit hospice patients at home and/or in nursing homes

We have ongoing needs for volunteers to support our patients and their loved ones. Patients at home often need someone to sit with them, so that their caregiver can leave the home to run errands or attend appointments. Patients who live alone benefit from companionship visits and even a volunteer who may help tidy their home or cook for them. Patients who have pets may wish for a volunteer to spend time with their animals (dog walking or playing with pets). Musicians can play/sing for patients. Volunteers who enjoy arts and crafts can guide patients in creating.

Patients in nursing homes often don't have anyone to visit them or their loved ones worry because they aren't able to visit as often as they'd like. Volunteers who visit patients in facilities talk with or read to patients, help their patients participate in facility activities like Bingo or meal times.

Most patients who want a volunteer only need a once a week visit. The visits are typically between 2-4 hours, depending on volunteer availability. Depending on a patient's condition, a volunteer may only visit once or they may have a long-term relationship. 

Note to students: Weekly shifts are not guaranteed for these types of visits; there are times when patients do not need support.
