Make a dogs weekend!  Take a dog on a bow-wow breakout and let them spend time chilling at home, walking on the greenway, or whatever other fun event you can think of!  A bow-wow breakout helps our dogs get a break from the kennel and introduces them to new people, environments, and new experiences...and it helps them get adopted! 

This is the volunteering option for you if you need a small amount of hours! 

Available 12-4pm 7 days a week.  All dogs must return to the shelter by 4pm. 

If you do keep the dog at your residence overnight the maximum number of service hours you can receive will be 8 hours per day.    

No dogs are allowed overnights at any campus housing.  If you live off-campus you MUST provide MACC staff written permission from your landlord that dogs are ok on the premises overnight.

Fostering or keeping dogs overnight is only available to students who live off-campus and whose landlords allow pets. Are you interested in helping Metro Animal Care and Control (MACC) and engaging in your community in an active and hands-on environment?  Are you looking for a short-term volunteer opportunity?  Do you enjoy talking directly to members of your community?  Join the MACC Street Team!  We are looking for a diverse group of team members who can walk, drive, bike, roller skate, hop, etc…to various locations throughout Davidson County to hang flyers and talk with local community members about upcoming shelter events, found animals, rabies/microchip clinics, long-stay shelter dogs, and more!  Help us advocate for MACC shelter animals and help manage community business bulletin boards, local business contacts, and organizations where flyers can be placed.  This is a great way to get a few volunteer hours in and help spread the mission of MACC throughout Davidson County.  Please consider joining us if you like the following; scavenger hunts, walking, driving, or biking to new establishments, talking with local organizations and business owners, love organization, and like to collaborate with a team of dedicated volunteers!  Interested volunteers must complete the MACC Volunteer Application and complete a virtual volunteer orientation.  Volunteers will receive 10 minutes of service credit for each flyer they put up.

We help clients connect to the right person in the right organization fort heir immediate
need, whether it’s housing, immigration, healthcare, job help, or more. We are trusted
connectors to resources, people and, programs. Ideally, but NOT required a resource navigator speaks- Spanish or Arabic to best communicate with many of our neighbors.

How It Works
As a volunteer resource navigator, you will be part of the Comprehensive Care program
at The Branch. You will:
Schedule volunteer shifts with Ashley Smith. The commitment is a minimum of 8
hours a month (that’s either two full volunteer shifts from 10-2 or four, half-time
shifts from either10-Noon or Noon-2)for at least 3 months.
Attend a training during your first navigator session. You’ll learn about the resources
available to clients, the tools we use to help our clients, and the process to follow
when a neighbor comes to the pantry and has needs beyond food.
You will be at the front desk during food pantry hours. You will talk to clients as they
come into The Branch to fill out paperwork; you’ll go out to their cars to see if they
need help navigating to other resources.
Document all referrals you’ve provided clients (this will be part of the training) on the
same day of your volunteer shift.
At the end of your 3-month commitment, meet with Ashley to discuss your
experience and if you would like to continue for another 3 months, or to take a break
for the next 3 months and then come back for another 3 months.

The Tennessee State Health Insurance Assistance Program (TN SHIP) is a free, non-based Medicare counseling program that assists Medicare beneficiaries and their families make the best choices for their health care needs. The GiGi's Playhouse 1:1 Literacy Tutoring Programs uses a methodology with documented success based on research by professionals in the field. The ability to read opens doors for individuals with Down syndrome in the workplace, schools and the community.  Developing reading skills also leads to improvements in speech and language development, auditory perceptual skills and working memory function.  Our goal is to foster a love for reading and provide an opportunity to develop and master skills, all while building a positive relationship with our volunteer tutors.  

We have various free therapeutic-based programs based on the different ages of our participants. 

Some Example of Programs That We Provide:

Fantastic Friends: (18+) The Fantastic Friends Adult Program meets weekly to provide opportunities for socialization and community involvement, while creating a fun and memorable experience for its participants. Participants work on vocational, communication, and social skills to boost confidence and encourage independence. 

Yoga: Teens and Adults (13+) and Yoga: Kids (8-12): This program promotes healthy habits for a lifetime of wellness through a proactive and routine that integrates physical, mental, and emotional development. This program helps participants develop personal awareness and learn specific strategies to maintain focus and manage emotions and impulses. 

LMNOP: Language, Music, N' Our Peeps (0-3): This program is an interactive and engaging program for young children with Down syndrome and their families. It guides parents and children through learning basic sign language and other forms of communication using music and language-based activities. 

Teentastic (13-18): Focuses on building social skills with friends without Down syndrome by participating in team-based activities in a casual and fun setting. Skill development includes understanding compromise, turn-taking and problem-solving abilities.

GiGi's Kitchen (all age groups): Our GiGi’s Kitchen programs are designed to emphasize the importance of a healthy lifestyle and early exposure to practical cooking skills. Under the guidance of program leaders, participants will engage in activities designed to promote healthy eating habits, kitchen safety awareness, food preparation skills, self-confidence, and social skills by applying learned skills as they prepare and enjoy a shared meal/snack!

Our memory care facility is looking for compassionate volunteers to spend time with our residents. You’ll participate in a variety of activities designed to stimulate creativity, promote social interaction, and bring joy to our residents. Our long term memory care facility is looking for someone to provide hair cuts to our residents. 

Our long term memory care facility is looking for volunteers to donate their time to visit with residents who are unable to leave their bed. Volunteers can read to residents, chat with residents, complete arts and craft projects, play an instrument, watch a movie, or share stories with residents, or engage in a volunteer planned activity.

Our long term care facility is looking for a musician or singer to donate their time and talent to our residents. Most of our residents have a love of music and would enjoy any musical performance. 

Listening to music is a wonderful and cherished activity for our residents. We always welcome performances from Belmont students.

We partner with more than 160 nonprofits and have an online calendar that makes signing up to volunteer quick and easy. You can choose when, where, and who you want to serve — after confirming your registration we email you everything you need to know prior to your volunteer service.

FiftyForward has opportunities for volunteers to assist with a wide variety of programming for older adults enrolled in our FiftyForward Friends Adult Day Services Program.  Volunteers are needed to assist staff with bingo, arts and crafts, and karaoke. 

Volunteers help provide engagement and a sense of community for FiftyForward Friends clients. By bringing their own passions and interests to share in the Friends space, volunteers help clients to reconnect with their sense of self. 

Café is offered Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays from 8am - 10am. Since the COVID-19 pandemic. Hands On has prioritized ways for volunteers to give of their time while remote. Our Café Program happens each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. We are looking for singer/songwriters to come perform during the duration of our program. Our current musicians plan a set between 60 - 90 minutes of originals and covers. We ask that musicians arrive no later than 8:15am so that they can set up appropriately and we close our program by 10am.

We do provide a keyboard, mics, and plug ins for guitars. Please reach out to schedule dates.

Here at Room In The Inn, we provide over 225 meals a day. We are always in need of volunteers Monday - Friday from 11am - 1pm to help us provide the best lunch service possible. Our lunch program is a great way to engage with those experiencing homelessness while giving back to our community.

Nations Ministry Center is a local nonprofit that helps refugee families become generationally self-sufficient through a variety of services, including immigration assistance and educational programming. Located in Southeast Nashville, Nations Ministry Center works directly with families in the heart of some of the city's most culturally diverse neighborhoods.  

Nations Academy, a literacy tutoring initiative of Nations Ministry Center, helps refugee children close the literacy gap through targeted language development and homework assistance in a safe and supportive environment using Nashville's Vision for Holistic Youth Development to cultivate growth mindsets, connect social and emotional skills, and grow cognitive skills.

Volunteers are needed to assist refugee youth in the classroom with literacy practice, homework help, and community building. Materials are provided. We'll orient and prepare you for your role. You simply need to show up ready to encourage youth! Scheduled opportunities are available Mondays through Thursdays 3:15-6:15 (elementary classrooms) and 4:00-6:00 (middle school classrooms).

Keep in mind this is not a drop-in opportunity. Volunteers build friendships by volunteering on a consistent, once a week basis and must be scheduled to serve. The best fits for this role are:

Volunteer opportunities are available to high schoolers, college students, and adults. Required service verification is available, as well as internship opportunities. Participants 18 or over must pass a required background check before serving. All volunteers will participate in an orientation process prior to serving, and should have compassion for the refugee journey and the obstacles faced by English-language learners.

Needing A FEW friendly outgoing people to greet people in the hospital and help them find their way to their destination, and possibly push a wheelchair to clinics on the first floor. 

This is consistent volunteer opportunity. Would like to have someone who is willing to come and volunteer weekly. The opportunities are Monday through Friday. You can volunteer for one shift a week. Time slots are below:

Lunch buddies are mentors who come eat lunch and spend time once a week with one of our scholars during their lunch periods on Monday - Friday.  You will visit with your “Buddy” during lunch and read, do crafts, play games, and ultimately form a positive relationship.  Consistency, positivity, and fun are what make a great lunch buddy! 

This is a weekly or biweekly commitment.  You can come ANY day of the week, as long as it’s during your Buddy’s assigned lunch period.

Transportation is a challenge for many seniors in Nashville and providing a ride is a meaningful way to help our older neighbors get where they need to go. Senior Ride Nashville keeps older adults connected to their community by providing affordable and assisted transportation for our riders. We are looking for caring, reliable volunteer drivers to provide transportation to medical appointments, grocery stores, beauty/barber shops, community centers and more! Your time can make a big difference in the lives of older adults in Nashville.

SRN drivers use their own vehicles and select rides based on their availability, location, and interest using an online scheduling tool. Volunteer drivers must complete an orientation and a background and motor vehicle record check before driving responsibilities begin. Records are checked on a recurring basis.

This is a new initiative for HAPI. We plan to operate the Art Store every Thursday of the month from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Artwork Curation: Curate a cohesive and engaging exhibition based on the chosen theme. Consider visual impact, diversity of styles, and artists’ stories. Ensure artworks align with HAPI’s values and promote healing.

Exhibit Preparation: Coordinate logistics for installation, including layout, lighting, and signage. Work with staff coordinator to set up the exhibit space. Handle any necessary framing or presentation adjustments.

Exhibit Description and Promotion: Craft compelling exhibit descriptions that convey the theme and artists’ narratives. Collaborate with the marketing team to create promotional materials. Utilize social media, newsletters, and community channels to promote the exhibition.

HAPI provides free classes taught by a professional artist to a person with mental illness.  Additionally, HAPI encourages and advances HAPI artists by curating, managing, and promoting public exhibitions across Tennessee.  Exhibits close to peer support centers allow artists and their peers to view their art publicly.  Public display of their work builds artists' confidence and pride in their abilities and brings a new degree of respect and support from their family and friends.

Quality Assurance: Verify data entries for completeness, correctness, and adherence to established standards. Identify and rectify any discrepancies promptly.

Collaboration: Work closely with team members to maintain a comprehensive and well-organized art database. Communicate effectively to address any database-related issues.

Your focus will be on fundraising initiatives, community engagement, and event coordination. Specifically, you’ll contribute to the success of the annual Phoenix art gala and the $20 for 20 years campaign.

Job Description:

1. Event Planning and Coordination: Collaborate with the Manager of Events and Director of Events to plan and execute fundraising events. Manage logistics, including venue selection, vendor coordination, and event timelines. Ensure seamless execution of the annual Phoenix art gala and other fundraising events.

2. Fundraising Strategy: Develop creative fundraising strategies to exceed financial goals. Engage with donors, sponsors, and community partners to secure support. Leverage the $20 for 20 years campaign to drive donations and awareness.

3. Community Relations: Represent HAPI at community events, networking functions, and donor meetings. Cultivate relationships with potential donors and sponsors. Promote HAPI’s mission and impact within your network.

4. Marketing and Outreach: Collaborate with the marketing team to create promotional materials for events. Utilize social media, newsletters, and other channels to reach a wider audience. Encourage community participation and engagement.

5. Volunteer Engagement: Recruit and coordinate volunteers for events. Provide training and support to volunteers. Recognize and appreciate volunteer contributions.

The students in our program go out to feed the homeless every Saturday. Help with distribution and listening to the stories of marginalized people. Give hope.
