GNRC will have a booth at Seniors on the Move Day of Love and Black History hosted at Fisk University. We will share information about GNRC Aging and Disability Programing and our Medicare Counseling Program (SHIP).

Volunteers need to track how many people see the booth, greet passers-by, and give GNRC/SHIP information as appropriate. Volunteers will need to transport a folding table.

In partnership with the Humphreys County Chamber of Commerce, GNRC is hosting a digital literacy class for older adults in Waverly, TN.

Are you interested in teaching a basic computer skills class to a group of 10 older adults? 

All training and material will be provided.

This opportunity requires NO formal teaching experience or a background in IT. A basic understanding of computers is all that’s needed along with a patient demeanor and the desire to bridge the digital gap for older adults in our community.

The class schedule is flexible and will be set together with the volunteer trainer. Ideally, classes will be offered in the mornings at the Waverly Senior Center. Total class time is 15 hours of instruction. An example class schedule could be 1.5-hour class twice a week for 5 weeks.

Trainers teach 15 hours of digital skills training to members of their community who want to develop their computer skills. Trainers will be issued a Chromebook (on loan) and receive training on a ready-made curriculum to guide the course content. Trainers will also have the support of Tech Goes Home staff and GNRC.

Characteristics of good trainers: Trainers do not need to be computer wizards, but they need to be comfortable using Gmail, Google Docs, and Google Sheets. Trainers must feel comfortable searching for answers online. It is most important that trainers are patient, compassioned educators.

Time commitment: The total time commitment for trainers is about 35 hours over the course of several weeks. In addition to trainer orientation (4 hours) each course will require 3 hours of logistics and communication with the team; 15 hours of class; 5 hours of make-up class(es); 6-8 hours of prep work (about an hour per class).

Trainers may be eligible to receive a stipend for teaching the course.

Please express interest in the opportunity and we will follow up with you on next steps and can answer any questions you may have.

The Martha O'Bryan Center needs upbeat, positive volunteers to assist in the food pantry. On Mondays and Thursdays, volunteers will be able to help with unloading deliveries. Every day of the week, volunteers will be able to work alongside clients to 'shop' in our food pantry and pick out the items that will serve them the most. Volunteers will also be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and order of the premises, bringing heavier boxes out to client cars.

Cumberland’s Popping into Positive Behavior PBIS initiative takes place biweekly in our Community Room and celebrates our Kindergarten–5th grade scholars who consistently demonstrate positive behavior in their classrooms, Related Arts, and during lunch. As a reward for making positive choices, eligible scholars receive popcorn every other Friday during lunchtime. To help make this experience possible, we are seeking volunteers to assist with popping popcorn from 8:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in preparation for student lunches.

The Shelby Bottoms Nature Center's annual seed swap with the library and master gardeners is coming up soon! The naturalists at the Nature Center need help packaging, sorting, and labeling seeds for this free event.What will volunteers be doing?Volunteers will help separate seeds from dried flowers, create and stamp packaging, and sort seeds into envelopes. Staff Coat check area, set up and monitor food and beverage stations, decorate the Parthenon, assist staff in creative event activities during the cocktail reception, tear-down and clean up post-event. 

Please dress conservatively and wear all black clothing. Bring your Volunteer lanyard and badge if you have it, otherwise one will be provided for you.

This engaging program captivates audiences with music composed and arranged for the unique reverb of the Parthenon Naos, performed in front of the spectacular 42-foot statue of Athena.

Volunteers will help with event set-up and tear-down, checking tickets in the lobby, ushering, and distributing information and surveys about future events, membership and the Centennial Park Conservancy.

Set-up begins at 4:30PM SHARP

Concert is at 7:30 PM (doors open by 7 PM) 

Tear-down starts at the conclusion of the concerts and usually winds up no later than 10:30pm

You may come for half shifts if necessary (4:30 till show starts and showtime through teardown) but we would prefer volunteers who can be dedicated to the whole evening, setup, show and teardown. Please let us know in advance if you can't stay for the whole event.

The Meistersingers - Tennessee State University's premier chamber choral ensemble - make their ECHO debut for an exhilarating night of music. The ensemble performs a wide variety of literature, from renaissance to current popular music genres.

Lunch Buddies are volunteers who go into a school to meet with a student once a week during the student's lunch period. The volunteer and student have some time together to build a relationship and do various activities together, including playing games, coloring and reading books together. 

This is a program where volunteers get to help students see and reach their full potential, because at PTM, we know that close positive relationships help students THRIVE! 

All participating schools are elementary or middle schools in Northwest Nashville.

Lunch times range from 10:00am to 1:00pm.

Volunteers will need their own reliable transportation to get to each visit. 

This is the volunteer need we are recruiting for MOST! Our goal at PTM is for every student to have a mentor, and students LOVE having a Lunch Buddy! We are especially in need of male Lunch Buddies as we have many male students asking for a Lunch Buddy and few male mentors!

Join us at one of our 4 mentoring programs to become a 1:1 mentor for an elementary, middle, or high school student! Meet with them once a week at their school to eat lunch together or at their afterschool site to play games and/or do a bible study, and build a positive relationship. Days and times are flexible, depending on the mentoring program selected!  

Programs include Breakfast & Bible Study, Dinner & Devotion, R.I.S.E., and Lunch Buddies!

Breakfast & Bible Study meets from 6:45-7:45am on Thursday mornings with our middle school students.

Dinner & Devotion meets 6:00-7:00pm on Tuesday evenings with our high school students. 

R.I.S.E mentors meet with an elementary student once a week M-Th between 3pm-5pm during afterschool programming. 

Lunch Buddies meet with an elementary or middle school student at their school during lunch time to eat with them. Lunch times occur between 10am-1pm M-F. 

We are currently most in need of R.I.S.E and Lunch Buddy mentors! These programs are flexible as mentors meet with their assigned student once a week, but can come any day of the week, depending on what is best for their schedule!

Join Nashville college students, faculty, and staff from nine area colleges & universities in honoring the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. King in a day of learning, action, and reflection. This year's program will feature a student panel in the morning, and then participants will head out into the community to serve at over 20 service sites around the city!

Pizza and t-shirts provided (while supplies last). Come prepared to work outdoors! We cannot guarantee indoor service projects for all participants.

The fair will be from 4:30-6:30pm at Wright Middle School.

Come join H.G. Hill middle schoolers as they explore career opportunities on Friday, March 20th. Nashville professionals are invited to help! Our school will have tables set up for volunteers to come and share their career paths with students who will walk around the tables and ask questions.

We are seeking professionals from the following fields: Architecture, engineering, HVAC, plumber, mechanic, hair stylist, makeup artist, nail technician, gym trainer, florist, small business owner, veterinarian, farmer, news/television worker, musician, firefighter, banker, graphic designer, music teacher, coding, video game programmer, A/V or sound engineer, trucker, event planner, hotel admin, welder, lineman, politician, etc. It's a lot, but those are our goals.

Volunteers will need to set up a table with some visuals that help represent their role and what they do, to help middle schoolers understand it. Swag/giveaways are welcome but optional.

Volunteer to keep the Stones River clean! Join the Cumberland River Compact to pick up litter along the Stones River Greenway in Donelson. Volunteers will work mostly behind Kohl’s off Lebanon Pike and along the Stones River Greenway to collect common litter like bottles, packaging, plastic bags, and other waste. Your efforts will beautify a public area and improve water quality in Nashville by removing trash before it can ever reach the water.

With the dedicated help of volunteers, the Compact removed 855 pounds of trash from this location in November. Let’s keep the impact going!

Help us expand and improve the trail system at Mill Ridge Park! Volunteers will cover up to 3 miles while creating and improving primitive trails at Mill Ridge Park. Activities involve hiking, bending, lifting, and the use of hand tools, and include: planning, measuring, mapping, and marking primitive trails; picking up and removing litter and debris from the trails; performing brushing activities with loppers, pruners, and weed wrenches; and moving downed trees and branches from trail to maintain proper corridor and prevent shortcutting. No prior trail work experience needed.

Volunteers for this activity should dress for weather conditions. Parts of the trail system could be muddy and/or wet. We recommend pants and shoes with adequate tread suitable for outdoor activity on rough, uneven terrain.

We're on the lookout for passionate individuals to join our team and support the language-learning journey of adult immigrants in the Nashville area. Our Adult Education Program has been a cornerstone in helping newcomers integrate seamlessly into our community. As a volunteer teacher, you'll play a crucial role in this heartwarming process. But it's not just about teaching English; it's about being a cultural ambassador and a friendly face in the Nashville area. Your presence will make a real difference.

No teaching certification is required to embark on this rewarding journey; however, we do recommend some teaching experience. Volunteers must be 18 or older. You'll have the opportunity to lead 1.5-hour lessons one evening per week for a 12-week term, with a curriculum and syllabus provided. Our spring term classes will meet online via Zoom, ensuring everyone's safety.

Because of the nature of our work and mobile accessibility in our communities of service, you may come in contact with a minor even if the position you are volunteering for is not student-oriented. We are looking for volunteers to commit a total of about 4-6 hours of their time on the evening of Tuesday, January 27, 2026, to help us conduct the first Cheatham County Point-in-Time Count. The count will be conducted in the evening hours (after dark) and with trained team leaders.

Come join us as we team up with Friends of Warner Parks and tackle some work to preserve and protect the park together. We’ll be breaking out the weed wrenches and going after some of the most noxious and invasive plants in the woods. We’ll also learn more about how invasive species impact our rivers and how to be a life-long river steward. Tools, gloves, and work materials will be provided. Please bring your own water bottle to help us cut down on plastic waste.  Thank you for helping us protect clean water and rivers in Tennessee!

Do you love conservation? Want to work outdoors to protect the natural ecosystems of Shelby Park and Bottoms? We need you!

Shelby Park and Bottoms is a natural oasis in the heart of the city. The forests here are a refuge for people and wildlife alike. Our Shelby forests need help: they are being overtaken by invasive plant species. Through our Restore the Forest program, we remove invasive species and replant native species to revitalize a healthy forest ecosystem.

What is the community impact of this event?

Healthy forests are beautiful for park visitors, provide food and shelter for wildlife and make our local ecosystem more resilient by promoting and enhancing growth of native plant species.

What will volunteers be doing at this event?

At this event, we will be uprooting and cutting down honeysuckle and privet plants with weed wrenches, loppers, and hand saws. They will work in small groups under the supervision of experienced staff that will help teach proper plant identification and safe tool usage.

Accessibility:

This event will include hiking while carrying heavy tools over uneven ground, and we will be working off-trail within the woods. Please dress according to the weather. Porta-potties are located a short walk from our worksite, and there should always be ample parking located nearby the worksite.

What to bring?

I recommend bringing your own water bottle and sunscreen. Water, gloves, all necessary tools, and additional water will be provided. Please wear sturdy shoes that are good for gardening (e.g. hiking boots), long socks, and long pants to protect yourselves from sticks and thorns in the forest. If possible, long sleeved shirts can also be helpful for protection, but please dress according to the weather.

We’ll gather together before breaking off into teams to cover the 10-mile stretch of the Little Harpeth that flows through Brentwood. Joined by civic groups, businesses, scout troops, neighborhood HOAs, and other interested communities, we’ll remove litter, trash, and debris from the Little Harpeth River! Trash bags and tools provided by Keep Williamson Beautiful, the Williamson County Sheriff’s Department.

We provide respite care for parents and caregivers of individuals with disabilities (ages 6th grade and up). Currently, we offer this free service to families in our community, not only church members. During this time, participants enjoy prayer, fellowship, activities, and service projects while parents and caregivers enjoy a evening to rest and reconnect. We would love to have you join us for our volunteer dinner and quick training/prayer time before our friends come for a fun evening. 

We provide respite care for parents and caregivers of individuals with disabilities (ages preschool through 5th grade). Currently, we offer this free service to families in our community, not only church members. During this time, participants enjoy crafts, games, songs, and play while parents and caregivers enjoy a morning to rest and reconnect. We would love to have you join us for our volunteer breakfast and quick training/prayer time before our friends and their siblings come for a fun morning of play. 

During the weekdays, we offer community and enrichment classes for adults impacted by disability. Volunteer opportunities look like supporting students in small groups during day classes. This is along with a classroom teacher and a vetted Embrace volunteer. While attending the classes with the friends to help them engage with the lesson, you may get to join in on an inclusive dance lesson, music therapy class, help make a frozen meal for our service project, join Brentwood Library in a craft, or pray with us during our Bible Class. There is always something different happening and some friends just need a little prompt to get up and have some fun.  *** Please reach out if you wish to attend but only able to come for part of the day. We still welcome you even if you need to leave early to head to a class or work.

J.E. Moss Elementary is going to get a much-needed paint job from the district. In preparation for this, support clean up support is needed on Feb 7th from 8:00am -12:00pm. The principal has requested cleaning of classroom doors to match with the new paint job. There are about 100 doors that need to be wiped down in addition to cleaning small windows from the doors and taking any adhesive or goo off the doors. Please see flyer attached for more information. Book Buddies is a dynamic book club that fosters literacy among MNPS students at the Juvenile Detention Center by providing access to high-quality, relevant reading materials and creating meaningful connections with members of the Nashville community to inspire a lifelong love of reading. 

Book: Long Way Down (graphic novel version) by Jason Reynolds 

Book Buddies will need to pick up a copy of the book the week of January 5, 2026, begin reading and complete the introductory infographic. Students will receive their copy of the book and their buddy's infographic on January 15, 2026. Book Buddies will last 4-5 weeks. The schedule is subject to change. 

A free copy of the book is available for every buddy, courtesy of the Parnassus Foundation. Information will be sent to book buddies about how to pick up their free copy. Book buddies are welcome to purchase their own copy, if they prefer. 

Buddies needed: 50 (We aim to pair each student with their own buddy.) 

Buddy responsibilities: 

·                  Complete the introductory infographic to introduce yourself to your student reading buddy. This will be sent directly to you. 

·                  Read the book according to the weekly schedule. 

·                  Read your student buddy’s response to the prompts and send a short video recording in which you respond to your student buddy’s thoughts about the reading and include your own thoughts as well.  

·                  Follow the established timeline and procedure for providing a video response. Information on sharing your video will be sent to you. Buddies will not meet with students in person. 

Adult book buddies will only correspond with their student through recorded video and written responses sent to the MNPS School Health team. Book buddies will not be meeting with students in person.

ACT is looking for volunteers to assist on our community outing to Waldo's Chickens where our trainees participate in job sampling.   This outing is recurring on Thursdays.  

Meet @ ACT @ 9:30, travel together to Waldos in Nolensville and return to ACT after the shift. 

While at Waldo's our trainees assist with refilling napkins, refilling condiments, and preparing biscuits, etc.

Help us bring some cheer to isolated seniors, seniors in nursing homes and/or disabled individuals in our communities by sending them heartfelt letters, letting them know that we care and haven't forgotten about them.

We are looking for uplifting letters that will bring their recipients some joy!

This month you are welcome to incorporate poetry in your theme for your letters in honor of World Poetry Day. You can incorporate the theme through art, by making your own themed cards and within the message of your letter. If you'd rather write about something else, you are welcome to do so as well. 

If you are interested in sending letters and/or art to seniors in the community, please sign up below and include in your response (in the notes) how many letters you would like to write. I will contact you with specific instructions for the letters and the address to send them to. Children are welcome to contribute also (an adult is required for minors to sign up).

 
We are looking to have this round of letters completed and received by their recipients by 03/31/2026. Please allow a couple of days for mailing and distribution. 
 
Volunteers will be required to have their own materials for the letters and any additional artwork you'd like to add, as well as stamps to mail the letters on hand (or you must be able to take them to the post office). I will try my best to provide you with one address for your letters so you can mail them together in a large envelope. 

Please allow 48 hours for me to get back to you with the instructions. 

If you are in need of community service hours, I am happy to confirm your hours for you. Please submit pictures of your letters as proof. We will be tracking and logging the actual time you spent working on the letters/cards and do NOT assign a specific number of letters per hour. Please check with your institution if they have specific requirements of how many letters you need to complete to get your hours approved.

Children younger than 13 are welcome to participate with an adult/guardian supervising and responsible for mailing the letters.

Join PTM at one of our five after-school sites where there is a lot of energy, and a HUGE need for volunteers! Volunteers assist with a variety of tasks: homework help, serving food to students, playing games and leading enrichment activities. 

St. Luke's operates one of the busiest food banks in Nashville, serving hundreds of people from low-income and working poor households each month. In addition to food, we also distribute diapers, cleaning and hygiene products and pet food through the Food Bank.  

Volunteers will unpack the food delivery, pack food boxes and serve clients directly. Volunteers may also assist with packing food boxes for our home delivery program in partnership with Amazon. 

St. Luke's is located at 5601 New York Avenue. Please enter through the red front door by the mailbox. Parking is available in front of our building, in the back parking lot or on the street around our campus. Please do not park in the designated Food Bank parking spots. Volunteers should wear comfortable clothes and shoes.

Become a volunteer reading tutor with the YMCA today! Y-Literacy provides free one-on-one tutoring to students grades K-5 who are assessed as reading below grade-level. Our volunteers undergo a straightforward training process to ensure they are comfortable before beginning-- All it takes is a willing heart and a smiling face!

At this time all tutoring is conducted VIRTUALLY! No need to worry about your commute, parking, or Nashville traffic.

Special Olympics Tennessee Fitness Program is a wellness initiative focused on fitness, nutrition, and mental health for teens and adults (ages 13+) with intellectual disabilities. Through goal-setting and measurable outcomes, we aim to empower athletes to take control of their health and reduce the disparities often faced by individuals with intellectual disabilities.

One of our key programs, Train 4 Life, is a 12-week fitness, nutrition, and wellness series. Each session lasts 60 minutes and is designed to help athletes build healthy habits in a supportive, inclusive environment. Weekly workout sessions starting January 19th through April 11th. The Nashville Dolphins are seeking compassionate volunteers who are comfortable getting in the water with swimmers who have special needs. Volunteers work under the direction of certified Lead Instructors, who provide ongoing guidance, training, and support. No prior experience is necessary—just a genuine desire to help provide life-saving swim skills to some truly special swimmers. This hands-on opportunity is especially valuable for individuals pursuing careers or certifications in special education, education, physical therapy, occupational therapy, medicine, social work, or other service-oriented fields. Volunteers gain meaningful experience while building confidence, skills, and connections. Come ready to learn, make a difference, and have fun in the water while supporting swimmers of all abilities.

Special Olympics Tennessee Fitness Program is a wellness initiative focused on fitness, nutrition, and mental health for teens and adults (ages 13+) with intellectual disabilities. Through goal-setting and measurable outcomes, we aim to empower athletes to take control of their health and reduce the disparities often faced by individuals with intellectual disabilities.

One of our key programs, Train 4 Life, is a 12-week fitness, nutrition, and wellness series. Each session lasts 60 minutes and is designed to help athletes build healthy habits in a supportive, inclusive environment. Weekly workout sessions starting January 19th through April 11th. Help us bring some cheer to isolated seniors, seniors in nursing homes and/or disabled individuals in our communities by sending them heartfelt letters. We are looking for uplifting letters that will bring their recipients some joy!

This month we are looking for letters or cards around the theme of new beginnings/winter. You can incorporate the theme through art, by making your own themed cards and within the message of your letter.

If you are interested in sending letters and/or art to seniors in the community, please sign up below and include in your response (in the notes) how many letters you would like to write. I will contact you with specific instructions for the letters and the address to send them to. Children are welcome to contribute (an adult is required for minors to sign up).
 
We are looking to have this round of letters completed and received by their recipients by 1/31/2025. Please allow a couple of days (we recommend at least a week) for mailing and distribution.
 
What do you need to provide? Volunteers will be required to have their own materials for the letters and any additional artwork you'd like to add, as well as stamps to mail the letters on hand (or you must be able to take them to the post office). I will try my best to provide you with one address for your letters so you can mail them together in a large envelope. 

Need your service hours confirmed? Please track and log the actual time you spent working on the letters/cards here in the volunteer portal AND submit pictures of your letters as proof. Please note that we do NOT assign a specific number of letters per hour. Please check with your institution if they have specific requirements of how many letters you need to complete to get your hours approved.

Volunteers with the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) will learn how to break up the complicated issue of Medicare into bite size pieces for others and provide assistance to them in choosing the Medicare plans and assistance options (if applicable) that are right for them. You will learn to provide unbiased and accurate information to anyone you assist. 

SHIP Volunteers will be able to give clients peace of mind and can witness first-hand the impact they are making in the beneficiary's life with the information they provide. 

This training is designed for new volunteers to the program. Attendance of all activities are required to become certified as a counselor. The classes will build on each other, so it is important not to miss a session.

For volunteers who'd like to attend events to share Medicare information and do plan comparisons or administrative work for the program but NO direct client counseling there is the option to attend just up to the second-class session.

Any volunteer who would like to be a full counselor will need to attend the full curriculum (all three class sessions as well as participate in the required activities in-between the sessions). Full certification as a counselor requires a minimum of 12 hours of in class training AND additional mentoring thereafter until the volunteer is able to provide counseling on their own.

Our librarian could use daily help with administrative support such as shelving books, assisting students with book check-outs, helping to distribute limitless library orders to students, and assisting with student technology issues.

Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays are the main days needed. Assistance would be needed between the hours of 9 am and 4 pm. If interested, notify us of the days you'd be available to support. Help is needed from January 6, 2026 to May 22nd, 2026.

Conversations to Remember is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, dedicated towards combating loneliness and isolation felt by senior citizens. Our virtual visit program matches 2-3 college students with residents of long-term care, assisted living, and memory care communities for virtual video visits. These residents have been suffering from isolation, and students really brighten their days just by speaking with them. We provide training to the students in the program about the best ways to interact with the seniors, as well as additional support throughout their service. Since these visits are virtual, students can do it without any travel. This is both convenient and allows more of the volunteers' time to be spent volunteering, rather than commuting to their volunteering location. We provide this program free of charge to seniors across the country, and have students from around the country as well. Typically, students volunteer 1-2 hours per week. Each call lasts up to one hour, based on the senior's attention span and mood on each day. We expect students to volunteer for approximately 16 weeks, so that they can build a friendship with the senior. This does not need to coincide with the start of a semester, as we have new seniors starting all the time and train new volunteers weekly. The students are matched based on the times that they're available with a senior who is available at the same time, and they will have a regular, weekly appointment for their visit. Students wishing more visits or other opportunities that allow them to volunteer more hours can be accommodated with different ways to volunteer, such as assisting us with our social media, call support, or marketing. Become a Lunch Buddy at Inglewood ES! 

At Inglewood Elementary, we are working hard to support our students in coming to school every day. One of our biggest challenges is chronic absenteeism, which occurs when a student misses 10 or more days of school—10% of the school year. When students are not in school, they miss valuable opportunities to learn, grow, and connect.

We know community partnerships make a powerful difference. That’s why we are inviting caring volunteers to become Lunch Buddies and invest in our students’ success. We have identified 36 students who would greatly benefit from having a consistent, encouraging adult to spend time with them.

J.E. Moss Elementary is looking for female and male volunteers to serve as Lunch Buddies for students. Lunch Buddies is designed to help reach students who would benefit from having an additional positive role model. The Lunch Buddy Program helps create healthy attitudes and behavior in youth, as well as provide skills, resources, and positive experiences that will aid them in becoming successful, productive citizens. We ask that volunteers commit to weekly or bi-weekly lunch visits with students. All volunteers are required to complete a Background Check through PENCIL before pairing with a student. As a Bereavement Caller, you can serve patients and families on hospice care. Volunteers make a weekly calls to check in on low risk bereaved family members to make sure that they are feeling supported.
