Saddle Up!’s mission is to provide children and youth with disabilities the opportunity to grow and develop through therapeutic, educational and recreational activities with horses. We bring that mission to life by providing a year-round program on our 34-acre farm near Franklin, TN.

Saddle Up! could not operate without the dedicated help of an army of volunteers from our community. There are numerous positions that require a wide variety of talents.  All volunteers MUST attend New Volunteer Training before participating in any of the below listed opportunities.

This volunteer interacts with and helps our special riders. Assigned to a particular rider in a riding lesson, this volunteer helps the rider get the horse ready, helps them get on the horse, and walks next to the rider throughout the mounted portion of the lesson providing support as needed. This is the person most involved with helping our special needs riders. Sidewalkers must be at least 16 years-old and able to walk briskly beside a horse for an average of 30 minutes. There are opportunities to sidewalk on a weekly basis or sub in as a sidewalker on any days when you are available.

This volunteer is in charge of a horse in a riding lesson. They pre-groom the horse before the lesson, help with tacking, and lead the horse throughout the lesson. Most riders who have leaders are unable to fully control their horse. After the lesson, they are responsible for putting the horse back where it needs to go and returning all equipment to the tack room. Leaders are volunteers over the age of 16 and must be able to walk at a fast pace for 30 minutes and jog intermittently during the lesson. They should be very comfortable with horses and react calmly if an incident arises.

In partnership with Delmas Long Community Center, GNRC is hosting a digital literacy class for older adults.

Are you interested in teaching a basic computer skills class to a group of 10-15 older adults? 

All training and material will be provided.

This opportunity requires NO formal teaching experience or a background in IT. A basic understanding of computers is all that’s needed along with a patient demeanor and the desire to bridge the digital gap for older adults in our community.

The class schedule is set between Delmas Long Community Center and the volunteer trainer. Total class time is 15 hours of instruction. An example class schedule could be 1.5-hour class twice a week for 5 weeks. The center is hoping to host classes on Wednesdays at 1 pm. 

Trainers teach 15 hours of digital skills training to members of their community who want to develop their computer skills. Trainers will be issued a Chromebook (on loan) and receive training on a ready-made curriculum to guide the course content. Trainers will also have the support of Tech Goes Home staff and GNRC.

Characteristics of good trainers: Trainers do not need to be computer wizards, but they need to be comfortable using Gmail, Google Docs, and Google Sheets. Trainers must feel comfortable searching for answers online. It is most important that trainers are patient, compassioned educators.

Time commitment: The total time commitment for trainers is about 35 hours over the course of several weeks. In addition to trainer orientation (3 hours) each course will require 3 hours of logistics and communication with the team; 15 hours of class; 5 hours of make-up class(es); 6-8 hours of prep work (about an hour per class).

Trainers may be eligible to receive a stipend for teaching the course.

Help us bring some cheer to isolated seniors, seniors in nursing homes and/or disabled individuals in our communities by sending them heartfelt letters. We are looking for uplifting letters that will bring their recipients some joy!

This month we are looking for letters or cards around the theme of Winter/Holiday wishes. You can incorporate the theme through art, by making your own themed cards and within the message of your letter.

If you are interested in sending letters and/or art to seniors in the community, please sign up below and include in your response (in the notes) how many letters you would like to write. I will contact you with specific instructions for the letters and the address to send them to. Children are welcome to contribute (an adult is required for minors to sign up).
 
We are looking to have this round of letters completed and received by their recipients by 12/31/2025. Please allow a couple of days for mailing and distribution. If you are mailing letters for a specific holiday and would like them to arrive and be distributed before then, please mail the letters at least 1.5 weeks prior. For example, Christmas letters should be mailed at the latest by December 13th, so that staff at the facility have enough time to distribute the letters to the residents.
 
What do you need to provide? Volunteers will be required to have their own materials for the letters and any additional artwork you'd like to add, as well as stamps to mail the letters on hand (or you must be able to take them to the post office). I will try my best to provide you with one address for your letters so you can mail them together in a large envelope.

Join our staff this fall as we host a Flag Football League for adults with Intellectual & Developmental disABILITIES on Saturday mornings at Elmington Park (3531 West End Ave) from 10:00am-12:00pm.  

Volunteer by playing alongside our MPDP athletes or volunteer from the sidelines as a score keeper or referee/official. We will provide scoring information, jerseys, whistles, scoreboards, water and anything else you need to be successful as a volunteer.

We're partnering with People Loving Nashville for their weekly Monday night outreach to bring hope to the streets of Nashville! We will serve on the community engagement team to meet neighbors, and help where needed.

Our team will attend the in-person, 5:15 PM, First-time Volunteer Orientation, and then travel downtown together to serve. If you have volunteered at PLN before, you are not required to attend the orientation, but you are required to meet us at Home Church. 

We're bringing a team to Room in the Inn to serve coffee and a light breakfast to their guests! We will also have a chance to tour the facility. Feel free to wear a costume this morning!

You will help facilitate the distribution of free grocery donations in West Nashville at Preston Taylor Housing.

Please arrive at 40th & Albion, Nashville, TN 37209 by 9:45 a.m. to help unload, set up, and distribute fresh groceries. Please help clean up and reload the food truck after.

A.Z. Kelley Elementary is looking for female and male volunteers to serve as Lunch Buddies for 3rd-5th grade students. Lunch Buddies is designed to help reach students who would benefit from having an additional positive role model. The Lunch Buddy Program helps create healthy attitudes and behavior in youth, as well as provide skills, resources, and positive experiences that will aid them in becoming successful, productive citizens. We ask that volunteers commit to weekly or bi-weekly lunch visits with students. All volunteers are required to complete a Background Check through PENCIL before pairing with a student. If interested, notify us of the lunch time that you'd prefer to volunteer for this. The Lunch Buddies Program will run from September 2025 to March 2026.

This is along with a classroom teacher and a vetted Embrace volunteer. While attending the classes with the friends to help them engage with the lesson, you may get to join in on an inclusive dance lesson, music therapy class, help make a frozen meal for our service project, join Brentwood Library in a craft, fitness with a personal instructor, or pray with us during our Bible Class. There is always something different happening and some friends just need a little prompt to get up and have some fun.

On Wednesday nights, our one-on-one buddies provide supports that allow our friends to be engaged either in their age-appropriate ministry and/or our Special Needs Ministry area. We offer support during the Wednesday night programming from 6:00pm - 7:30pm.

You will not need to assist anyone in the bathroom, but you may color or build with legos or read a book or even push a swing. We share the gospel in all of these ways so that they can learn about God in the way that best suits their learning style.

On Sunday mornings, our one-on-one buddies provide supports that allow our friends to be engaged either in their age-appropriate ministry and/or our Special Needs Ministry area. We offer support during the Sunday morning services from 9:15am - 10:45am and 10:45am - 12:15pm while parents attend Worship, Bible Studies, or Choir. We serve all ages, but the classrooms/groups are separated by Preschool/Kids/Students/Adults. We can find the right age range and level of care you are comfortable with assisting.

Title of Position:Youth NAZA After-School Program Intern  

Purpose: NICE hosts a NAZA-funded after-school program for English Learners that  focuses on building Academic, Literacy, and Social Emotional skills for middle school students. The program uses a positive youth development approach to promote youth leadership, healthy relationships, and instill a positive growth mindset for all learners.

You can present a series of presentations to one audience or the same presentation to multiple groups, depending on whether you would rather dig into the research on one topic or improve your confidence with public speaking. 

 Learn about the benefits of a plant-based diet for environmental and social justice. Then, share this information with the public by writing a series of articles elaborating on the connection between food choices and the environment. These articles will be eligible to be posted on the Switch4Good blog. 

Learn about the current state of food, environmental, and relevant policy, such as the FISCAL Act, the Farm Bill, and other local bills. Then, write a letter to the editor responding to a published article about one of these bills or an op-ed sharing your viewpoint more generally about these policy proposals. Attempt to get your piece published in a school newspaper, a local outlet, or even a regional or national one!

Learn about the benefits of a plant-based diet for environmental and social justice. Then, share this information with your peers by creating examples of balanced meals that are affordable, accessible, and able to be prepared in a dorm environment. Research and communicate the resources and emissions saved from making the recipe plant-based rather than animal-product-inclusive.

Survey selected audience (i.e., dorm neighbors, sports team, those who share an academic focus) to understand their considerations when choosing their food.

Preparation and Planning

Research the connection between food and environment independently and with the support of Switch4Good materials and team.

Reflect on survey results to determine the standards that each recipe must meet, including cost, ease of buying ingredients, and cooking method.

Brainstorm at least ten different plant-based recipes that are affordable, accessible, and practical for the audience to cook. Each recipe should be for a balanced, nutritious meal that includes fruits and vegetables, complex carbohydrates, and protein. 

Calculate the environmental savings of each recipe compared to a similar recipe that includes animal products.

Action/Demonstration

Prepare and distribute recipes (i.e., live cooking demonstration, printed handouts, video, etc.) and communicate environmental benefits.

Deliverables:

Survey that was distributed to the audience asking about preferences, restraints, etc.

Documentation of the presentation of the recipes (i.e., video recording, handouts, etc.)

Help us bring some cheer to isolated seniors, seniors in nursing homes and/or disabled individuals in our communities by sending them heartfelt letters, letting them know that we care and haven't forgotten about them.

We are looking for uplifting letters that will bring their recipients some joy!

This month the theme for the letters is "Books and Movies". We encourage you to share about your favorite things to read or watch. You can incorporate the theme through art, by making your own themed cards and within the message of your letter.

We are looking to have this round of letters completed and received by their recipients by 09/30/2025. Please allow a couple of days for mailing and distribution. 

If you are interested in sending letters and/or art to seniors in the community, please click on sign up and include in your response (in the notes) how many letters you would like to write. I will contact you with specific instructions for the letters and the address to send them to.  

Younger children are welcome to participate with their parents or a guardian/caregiver (an adult is required for minors younger than 13 to sign up). 

Volunteers will be required to have their own materials for the letters and any additional artwork you'd like to add, as well as stamps to mail the letters on hand (or you must be able to take them to the post office). I will try my best to provide you with one address for your letters so you can mail them together in a large envelope. 

Please allow 48 hours for me to get back to you with the instructions. 

If you are in need of community service hours, I am happy to confirm your hours for you. Please submit pictures of your letters as proof. We will be tracking and logging the actual time you spent working on the letters/cards and do NOT assign a specific number of letters per hour. Please check with your institution if they have specific requirements of how many letters you need to complete to get your hours approved.

At Ella's House, we exist to support pregnant and parenting students in Middle Tennessee through housing, community, and mental health and wellness initiatives to provide holistic help--through semesters and trimesters. 

We are looking for students with a heart and passion for helping others. The campus ambassador program is for current college students that are involved on their campus. Campus ambassadors' job is to help spread awareness, educate peers, and recruit new volunteers.

Requirements:

1. Meet with volunteer coordinator at the beginning of the semester to set goals. (Ex. “I want to serve every Wednesday afternoon” or “I want to help plan a mommy mixer”)

2. Actively serve at Ella’s House throughout the year; Minimum is 1x a month.

3. Assist EH staff at your campus’ service fair and the “finals coffee” table on campus.

4. Serve at the annual fundraiser, Night Circus, in early February.

GNRC is partnering with Trevecca Towers to pair Friendly Visitors with Residents at the Senior Living Highrise. Residents at Trevecca Towers are 62 years and up, some are younger if they have a disability. Many of the residents are quite isolated and would greatly benefit from a connection with a community volunteer. 

Commitment: Spend time regularly with your assigned residents at least once a month. Visits can vary in length based on mutual comfort. Once you have been matched, visits can be coordinated directly between resident and volunteer. 

You can spend time talking, playing games, reading, doing crafts or crossword puzzles depending on mutual interest. Many residents are also interested in help navigating their cell phone. So, if you are well versed and able to help spent some time explaining how to do things, that would be appreciated. Some clients need help with light household tasks.

Next steps: Please express interest in the opportunity and we will reach out to you with more details, to match you with a resident and to schedule an initial visit. After the initial visit you will be able to schedule your visits directly with the residents independently. If you'd like to visit more than one resident, we can arrange for that as well.

Make a dogs weekend!  Take a dog on a bow-wow breakout and let them spend time chilling at home, walking on the greenway, or whatever other fun event you can think of!  A bow-wow breakout helps our dogs get a break from the kennel and introduces them to new people, environments, and new experiences...and it helps them get adopted! 

This is the volunteering option for you if you need a small amount of hours! 

Available 12-4pm 7 days a week.  All dogs must return to the shelter by 4pm. 

If you do keep the dog at your residence overnight the maximum number of service hours you can receive will be 8 hours per day.    

No dogs are allowed overnights at any campus housing.  If you live off-campus you MUST provide MACC staff written permission from your landlord that dogs are ok on the premises overnight.

The Nature Discovery Program is a partnership between Friends of Warner Parks, the Warner Park Nature Center, and Metro Parks Community Centers to reach youth who lack direct access to, and are often underrepresented in, traditional environmental education and outdoor recreation programs. The Nature Discovery Program is activated in a number of ways including:

Nature Detectives Club: an after-school program for youth at Metro Nashville Community Centers. This program provides science-based teachings and empowers kids to explore nature. This program takes place at more than 20 Community Centers throughout Davidson County. 

P.E.N. Pals (People Exploring Nature) Summer Camp: brings youth from Metro Parks Community Centers to the Warner Parks for a full day of nature exploration and outdoor adventure! Youth follow their curiosity as they explore the meadow, pond, and garden ecosystems, hike through the forest, observe wildlife, kayak, learn outdoor skills, search for crawdads in the Little Harpeth River, and create lasting memories in nature. 

P.E.N. Pals (People Exploring Nature) Fall Campfire & Night Hikes: Community Center youth experience the Warner Parks during the fall season. Earlier sunsets and cooler temperatures mean it's time to roast hot dogs, make s'mores, and enjoy time around the bonfire. Youth take a crepuscular hike through the meadows and forests of the Warner Parks and view the night sky while learning about nocturnal creatures. 

*We are looking for college-aged volunteers to participate in any of these branches of the Nature Discovery program, as the youth often find it easier to connect with this age group. This opportunity is wonderful for those who are interested in education, biology, sustainability, or environmental studies.*

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, adaptable, and ready to shape the musical journeys of young singers in a Young Adult Choir. Ideally, we would like someone with deep understanding of vocal techniques, great communications skills to attract young people with no experience but may have potential along with a great desire to develop talents and serve the body of Christ.

Need created to log hours for doing lesson plans for Boys & Girls Club

Meal of Hope is our weekly meal for the homeless & inner-city community! Enjoy live music, testimonies, ministry, and fellowship with a loving community over a hot meal. Volunteers arrive at 5 PM and we welcome guests at 5:30 PM. There are opportunities to serve the meal, eat and fellowship with guests, serve dessert & drinks, and more! 

The Martha O'Bryan Center needs upbeat, positive volunteers to assist in the food pantry. On Mondays and Thursdays, volunteers will be able to help with unloading deliveries. Every day of the week, volunteers will be able to work alongside clients to 'shop' in our food pantry and pick out the items that will serve them the most. Volunteers will also be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and order of the premises, bringing heavier boxes out to client cars.

The Martha O’Bryan Center is an anti-poverty non-profit organization with longstanding history and deep community roots, founded in 1894. Our headquarter campus sits in the East Nashville public housing campus of Cayce Place, currently transforming into the mixed-income neighborhood Boscobel Heights.  This is where we operate most of our programs, supporting education goals for learners of all ages, empowering youth and adults in their careers, and providing stability and support services for individuals and families.

Pawster is looking for volunteers to help transport pets and supplies! Pet Chauffeurs are volunteer drivers who bring pets to their foster homes, to veterinary appointments, and anywhere else a pet may need! They also help bring supplies to fosters. You make Pawster's mission possible.

All you need is a valid driver's license, a vehicle, and a love of pets. Once you sign up and complete orientation, you'll be on the Pet Chauffeur list. When a pet or supplues needs to be transported, we'll send the request to pet chauffeurs. If you're available to help, great! If not, just wait on the next one!

Pawster is always looking for people to volunteer at events to spread awareness about the need for Crisis Foster Care for dogs and cats. But we need your help to staff Pawster's table at events! Are you interested in helping Metro Animal Care and Control (MACC) and engaging in your community in an active and hands-on environment?  Are you looking for a short-term volunteer opportunity?  Do you enjoy talking directly to members of your community?  Join the MACC Street Team!  We are looking for a diverse group of team members who can walk, drive, bike, roller skate, hop, etc…to various locations throughout Davidson County to hang flyers and talk with local community members about upcoming shelter events, found animals, rabies/microchip clinics, long-stay shelter dogs, and more!  Help us advocate for MACC shelter animals and help manage community business bulletin boards, local business contacts, and organizations where flyers can be placed.  This is a great way to get a few volunteer hours in and help spread the mission of MACC throughout Davidson County.  Please consider joining us if you like the following; scavenger hunts, walking, driving, or biking to new establishments, talking with local organizations and business owners, love organization, and like to collaborate with a team of dedicated volunteers!  Interested volunteers must complete the MACC Volunteer Application and complete a virtual volunteer orientation.  Volunteers will receive 10 minutes of service credit for each flyer they put up.

Do you have 1 hour that you are willing to give to a student each week? If so, we would love for you to consider becoming a LUNCH BUDDY! 

Lunch Buddies are volunteers who go into a school to meet with a student once a week during the student's lunch period. The volunteer and student have some time together to build a relationship and do various activities together, including playing games, coloring and reading books together. 

This is a program where volunteers get to help students see and reach their full potential, because at PTM, we know that close positive relationships help students THRIVE! 

All participating schools are in Northwest Nashville.

Lunch times range from 10:00am to 1:00pm.

Volunteers will need their own reliable transportation to get to each visit. 

Kennedy Hall Residents will go to Preston Taylor Ministries Community House a few Fridays out of the semester and interact with students during their after school program. PTM at Community House serves K - 8th grade students. They are divided into small groups with 4 -30 minute rotations. You may be helping with Homework, Sports activities, outside games, an enrichment activity, one on one time with students or perhaps some bible time. We are locating in the St Lukes Community House gym at 1605 56th Ave North on the corner of California Ave and 56th Ave North. It's a large gym building, tan with a red roof. 

We help clients connect to the right person in the right organization fort heir immediate
need, whether it’s housing, immigration, healthcare, job help, or more. We are trusted
connectors to resources, people and, programs. Ideally, but NOT required a resource navigator speaks- Spanish or Arabic to best communicate with many of our neighbors.

How It Works
As a volunteer resource navigator, you will be part of the Comprehensive Care program
at The Branch. You will:
Schedule volunteer shifts with Ashley Smith. The commitment is a minimum of 8
hours a month (that’s either two full volunteer shifts from 10-2 or four, half-time
shifts from either10-Noon or Noon-2)for at least 3 months.
Attend a training during your first navigator session. You’ll learn about the resources
available to clients, the tools we use to help our clients, and the process to follow
when a neighbor comes to the pantry and has needs beyond food.
You will be at the front desk during food pantry hours. You will talk to clients as they
come into The Branch to fill out paperwork; you’ll go out to their cars to see if they
need help navigating to other resources.
Document all referrals you’ve provided clients (this will be part of the training) on the
same day of your volunteer shift.
At the end of your 3-month commitment, meet with Ashley to discuss your
experience and if you would like to continue for another 3 months, or to take a break
for the next 3 months and then come back for another 3 months.

At MyRide West TN, we are dedicated to supporting as many older adults as possible. We are always striving to make a difference in people's lives! You can help us with that mission by by becoming a "Waymaker". Our volunteers drivers do more than just drive, they are a listening ear, a hand to hold, a smile when someone is down and a friendly face. So we like to say we have "Waymakers" because they 'make a way for our older adults in our community'. The Tennessee State Health Insurance Assistance Program (TN SHIP) is a free, non-based Medicare counseling program that assists Medicare beneficiaries and their families make the best choices for their health care needs. We are in need of volunteers in the community to assist with answering Medicare questions, attending community events, entering data and more.
