Volunteer: MLK Jr High School Garden Maintenance

Join Tennessee Environmental Council (TEC) in creating and maintaining the pollinator gardens at MLK Jr. High School.



What to wear/bring: Volunteers are asked to wear long pants and closed-toed shoes. We will have gloves and shovels on site, but feel free to bring your own supplies. Please bring a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated during the event.



What to expect: Please check in at the volunteer table to sign a liability waiver. Following the opening remarks, TEC staff will provide training on pollinator garden maintenance.


Parking: If driving, please park in the lot next to the Watkins Community Center, across from the entrance of MLK Jr. High School

Volunteer: Create a Pollinator Garden at McMurray Middle School

We invite you to join Tennessee Environmental Council (TEC), and McMurray Middle School students and staff in creating pollinator habitats with native wildflowers that support a variety of pollinator species, including native bees, butterflies, moths, and many more. This pollinator garden will not only provide a habitat for pollinators but also create an excellent educational opportunity for students, offering hands-on experiences in ecology, taxonomy, and environmental studies, as well as exposure to our beautiful natural world.



You will be engaged in the following activities :


remove the sod and remaining roots from the garden areashoveling and transporting soil with wheelbarrows into the pollinator habitatspreading the soil with rakesadding native wildflower seeds to the soil


TEC will provide all the necessary tools, gloves, and extra water if you run out. Please bring your refillable water bottle.


Please dress for gardening/yardwork (closed-toe shoes, long sleeve shirt, long pants, hat, and sunscreen).
