As a volunteer teacher, you'll play a crucial role in this heartwarming process. But it's not just about teaching English; it's about being a cultural ambassador and a friendly face in the Nashville area. Your presence will make a real difference.

No teaching certification is required to embark on this rewarding journey. We do, however, recommend some teaching experience. Volunteers must be 18 or older. You'll have the opportunity to lead 1.5-hour lessons one evening per week for a 12-week term, and we provide you with the curriculum and syllabus.

Our fall term classes will meet online via Zoom.

Job Summary:

As a Volunteer Event/Fundraising Planner, you’ll play a vital role in organizing and executing events that support HAPI’s mission. Your focus will be on fundraising initiatives, community engagement, and event coordination. Specifically, you’ll contribute to the success of the annual Phoenix art gala and the $20 for 20 years campaign.

Job Description:

1. Event Planning and Coordination: Collaborate with the Manager of Events and Director of Events to plan and execute fundraising events. Manage logistics, including venue selection, vendor coordination, and event timelines. Ensure seamless execution of the annual Phoenix art gala and other fundraising events.

2. Fundraising Strategy: Develop creative fundraising strategies to exceed financial goals. Engage with donors, sponsors, and community partners to secure support. Leverage the $20 for 20 years campaign to drive donations and awareness.

3. Community Relations: Represent HAPI at community events, networking functions, and donor meetings. Cultivate relationships with potential donors and sponsors. Promote HAPI’s mission and impact within your network.

4. Marketing and Outreach: Collaborate with the marketing team to create promotional materials for events. Utilize social media, newsletters, and other channels to reach a wider audience. Encourage community participation and engagement.

This month the theme for the letters is "Summer". We encourage you to share about your favorite summer activities and summertime memories, summer vacation spots or summer reads. You can incorporate the theme through art, by making your own themed cards and within the message of your letter.

We are looking to have this round of letters completed and received by their recipients by 07/31/2026. Please allow a couple of days for mailing and distribution. 

If you are interested in sending letters and/or art to seniors in the community, please click on sign up and include in your response (in the notes) how many letters you would like to write. I will contact you with specific instructions for the letters and the address to send them to.  

Younger children are welcome to participate with their parents or a guardian/caregiver (an adult is required for minors younger than 13 to sign up).

Learn about the benefits of plant-based diets for environmental and social justice. Choose popular meals from on-campus eateries and learn how they can be made plant-based. Research emissions saved from making the recipe plant-based rather than animal-product-inclusive. Communicate and propose the resources and your recipes to dining staff at your university.

Overview: Learn about the relationship between food and the environment, focusing on the environmental benefits of a plant-based diet. Plan and execute an event on campus that highlights the accessibility of plant-based foods, communicates environmental issues through the lens of our food system, and brings the campus community together.

Learn about the current state of food, environmental, and relevant policy, such as the FISCAL Act, the Farm Bill, and other local bills. Then, write a letter to the editor responding to a published article about one of these bills or an op-ed sharing your viewpoint more generally about these policy proposals. Attempt to get your piece published in a school newspaper, a local outlet, or even a regional or national one!

Learn about the benefits of plant-based diets for the environment and environmental justice. Then, brainstorm a campaign aligned with Switch4Good’s mission and branding to push for a more dairy-free world, focusing on environmental motivators. Generate the outline of your proposed campaign and create sample assets. 

Learn about the benefits of a plant-based diet for environmental and social justice. Then, share this information with the public by writing a series of articles elaborating on the connection between food choices and the environment. These articles will be eligible to be posted on the Switch4Good blog. 

Stages:

Investigation

Research and identify potential topics within the broader topic of food choices and the environment. 

Survey your peer group or whoever your target audience is to better understand what information they lack or what they wish they knew more about.

Preparation and Planning

Determine the focus of research and writing based on criteria such as urgency of the issue, level of public awareness, and personal interest. 

Determine the scope of research and writing to cover the subject matter. Each article should be at least 1,000 words long, and the project requires at least 3 articles, but it is up to you if you’d like to write about three topics or write a series about one topic. 

Research the connection between food and environment independently and with the support of Switch4Good materials and team.

Organize research, draft a thesis statement, and write an outline.

Senior Ride Nashville is growing our volunteer driver team! Drivers use their own vehicles to transport seniors to community centers, medical appointments, grocery stores, beauty/barber shops and more. Help a senior get where they need to go and make a friend in the process! Volunteer shifts are flexible and scheduled at your convenience using an easy online tool. SRN provides rides Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Arts Build Communities (ABC) grant program is designed to provide support for arts projects that broaden access to arts experiences, address community quality of life issues through the arts, or enhance the sustainability of asset-based cultural enterprises. The program seeks to build communities by nurturing artists, arts organizations (including local arts agencies), and arts supporters in Tennessee.

Are you part of the Arts community and familiar with the local art scene?

Volunteer to judge on the TN Arts Builds Communities grant review panel. The panel review will take place on Monday, August 10, 2026, beginning at 9:30am. The panel will meet VIRTUALLY via Microsoft Teams.

Volunteers must review all grant applications between July 27 and August 9 at 11:59pm and be available at the time of the panel review on August 10. The estimated time commitment per volunteer is around 12 hours between the application review (6-7 hours) and the panel (5-6 hours).

Volunteers must reside and have an arts background in Davidson County to participate on the panel.

Please express interest in participating in the panel by July 1. GNRC staff will reach out to conduct interviews with prospective panelists. Panelists will be selected and confirmed among those who sign up by July 8. 

Advisory panels reviewing grant applications for this program assign scores based on how well the proposed project addresses ABC program objectives and use the following evaluation criteria on a 100-point scale:

Artistic/Cultural Merit (35 points)
Applications should provide evidence of how the proposed arts/cultural project shows value to the community being served. Competitive applications may demonstrate artistic/cultural merit by showing how projects will accomplish one or more of the following:

Community Engagement and Participation (35 points)
Applications should provide evidence of how organizations understand and are responsive to diverse interests and needs of communities served. Additional evidence includes: needs assessment research; formal partnerships that advance project goals through resource and responsibility sharing; and demonstrated support from local community leaders.

Competitive applications may also demonstrate goals and objectives that are designed to address social issues or build economic sustainability through the arts.

Budget and Financial Support (20 points)
Applications should include realistic project budgets with accurate cost and income estimates.
Competitive applications will show that organizations are actively raising funds through requests to individual contributors, private corporations, foundations, government sources, AND/OR through viable earned revenue projections.

Operational Practice (10 points)
Applications should provide evidence that planning procedures are clear, inclusive and include discussion on past project results (when appropriate). Competitive applications will address all application questions and provide correct and complete information.

Conversations to Remember is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, dedicated towards combating loneliness and isolation felt by senior citizens. Our virtual visit program matches 2-3 college students with residents of long-term care, assisted living, and memory care communities for virtual video visits. These residents have been suffering from isolation, and students really brighten their days just by speaking with them. We provide training to the students in the program about the best ways to interact with the seniors, as well as additional support throughout their service. Since these visits are virtual, students can do it without any travel. This is both convenient and allows more of the volunteers' time to be spent volunteering, rather than commuting to their volunteering location. We provide this program free of charge to seniors across the country, and have students from around the country as well. Typically, students volunteer 1-2 hours per week. Each call lasts up to one hour, based on the senior's attention span and mood on each day. We expect students to volunteer for approximately 16 weeks, so that they can build a friendship with the senior. This does not need to coincide with the start of a semester, as we have new seniors starting all the time and train new volunteers weekly. The students are matched based on the times that they're available with a senior who is available at the same time, and they will have a regular, weekly appointment for their visit. Students wishing more visits or other opportunities that allow them to volunteer more hours can be accommodated with different ways to volunteer, such as assisting us with our social media, call support, or marketing. Become a volunteer reading tutor with the YMCA today! Y-Literacy provides free one-on-one tutoring to students grades K-5 who are assessed as reading below grade-level. Our volunteers undergo a straightforward training process to ensure they are comfortable before beginning-- All it takes is a willing heart and a smiling face!

At this time almost all tutoring is conducted VIRTUALLY! No need to worry about your commute, parking, or Nashville traffic. If you would like to read with a student in-person with a supervised Y-staff, let us know! 
 
Volunteers commit to working with their student once per week for 1 hour. Volunteer opportunities are available Monday-Thursday starting between 3-7pm. Volunteers are paired with a student based on compatible availability.

Assist Davidson county residents in responding to the recent winter ice storm. We are working with multiple local organizations to respond. accentCare Hospice Volunteers make a profound impact in the lives of our hospice patients and their loved ones. As a Bereavement Caller, you can serve patients and families on hospice care. Volunteers make a weekly calls to check in on low risk bereaved family members to make sure that they are feeling supported.

After volunteers go through orientation and shadowing, calls can be made from their homes or in our Franklin office after orientation period.

No previous hospice experience is needed, accentCare Hospice will provide training and support throughout your time as a volunteer.

We are looking to animate our nine animal characters, Behavior Bear, Do'er Duck, Friendship Frog, Healthy Hippo, Manners Monkey, Respectful Rabbit, Responsible Rabbit, Self-Esteem Elephant and Warm-Hearted Walrus.  Using 2D Vector files, and adobe to bring these characters to life in short animations. The Organization for Autism Research seeks volunteers with business leadership and development experience to help our newest initiative, the Hire Autism Regional Ambassador program.

Regional Ambassadors work to help us expand our network of employer partners and community partners and increase our community involvement and engagement to expand the employment opportunities available to autistic job seekers across the nation. The expected volunteer commitment is 1-2 hours per week for 6-12 months, with the goal of onboarding at least 2-3 new companies each month.

Virtual training is provided, and Ambassadors have the option to enroll in our Autism-Friendly Employer Training, a voluntary 3-hour virtual training program that contains information on inclusive job descriptions, interviewing autistic candidates, and best practices for managing, training, and onboarding.

Do you want to directly help adults with autism get a job? Job seekers with autism are among the many unemployed right now facing extra challenges and can use your help! Apply today at https://www.hireautism.org/navigator-application/ We are looking for volunteers with business, management, and human resources experience to serve as Hire Autism Navigators and help autistic adults refine their resumes and cover letters and prepare for job interviews. The expected volunteer commitment is 1-2 hours per week for three months. Familiarity with autism is a plus, but it is not a prerequisite. Volunteers must complete our Navigator training and successfully pass a background check before being eligible to begin working with a Hire Autism job seeker. The ideal volunteer will have a record of success in their professional career, excellent verbal and written communication skills, a commitment to Hire Autism’s mission, and the desire to serve as a positive role model. Duties and Responsibilities: Conduct weekly phone/video call with an assigned job seeker Provide feedback in the form of comments on the job seeker’s resume and cover letter Help job seeker identify and search for jobs commensurate with their skills and qualifications Support job seeker with interview preparation Answer general job search questions and teach basic employment-related skills Document and report progress to Hire Autism staff on a biweekly basis Promote job seeker’s autonomy and independence by embracing a “do-it-with, not do-it-for” coaching style Requirements: 10+ years of leadership, management, HR, or related experience Ability to pass a criminal background check Experience as a business owner, hiring manager, or similar Competence in Google Docs, online searching, and virtual communication Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Potential volunteers must attend two Zoom trainings (first an orientation training, then a Burlington English training) led by NALC staff before being matched with a learner. Training is provided via Zoom only: in-person training is not currently available.

Support in sharing the work of Characters of Character to various platforms to bring awareness to the organization.

Characters of Character is shared nation wide. Our focus is in Tennessee, Illinois and Texas where we donate Superhero activity boxes to Children's Hospitals. These activity boxes include an activity book, water color paints and brush, an easel, a canvas that says I AM SUPER, crayons, a character lanyard, superhero mask and stickers, and an autographed greeting card to the child patient.

You may have family or friends in these states who you can share our project with? Word of mouth is powerful and we work tirelessly raising funds to be able to donate these. Looking for donations and sponsors to support these boxes. Would you like to make phone calls to ask for such? Are you an advocate to make a difference in the life of a child?

We'll provide you a script for the phone calls and information as needed.

Volunteering with us will help fulfill your service hours and do your heart good if you believe in our mission of providing a firm foundation for children to establish strong civic values. This looks different today because we are working with Children's Hospitals.

You can also share us with elementary staff to let them know about our organization. Our newsletters offer FREE content to use in a classroom, too.

We have an immediate need for auxiliary volunteers. It would be helping with cleaning cages, dishes, laundry or food prep. Individuals who are eager for more can become an animal care technician. This requires training and commitment to be able to care for and handle animals. We also have many other opportunities for individuals to help with depending on their interests and abilities. One by One is looking for women to volunteer to serve as mentors to pregnant and new moms. We provide all of your training at no cost. We match you to one mom. You will talk/text with your mom weekly and meet with her monthly throughout her pregnancy and until her child turns one. We provide you with the curriculum to discuss at each meeting at no cost. Our curriculum covers baby health, wellness, development, and safety and includes activities moms can do with their babies to promote bonding and development so that their children will be kindergarten-ready when the time comes. Mentors also share lessons on parenting and life skills and help connect moms to other resources if needed to assist with housing, transportation, education/job training, counseling, etc. We are in need of women willing to mentor moms in-person as well as women willing to mentor moms virtually using platforms such as Facetime, Zoom, etc.
