In 2021, we announced our new strategic plan, DUB100BY2026. DUB = double the number of youth served, from 4,700 to 10,000. 100 = 100% ready in 5 key areas: Ready to Read, Ready for Class, Ready to Graduate, Ready for Career, and Ready to Serve Community. We are doing this by focusing on: Transforming Club Experience, Reaching More Youth with Digital, and Elevating Youth Voice/Teens.
BGCMT created Industry Clubs to give youth in-depth, behind-the-scenes look at careers because we believe, “It’s hard to be what you can’t see.” Industry Clubs is an “exposure-ship” program that exposes teens to career possibilities and industries they may not otherwise consider. The experience includes shadowing industry professionals, having on-site experiences, and then developing a capstone project based off learnings over the 5- to 8-week program. A key outcome of this program is to change youths’ mindsets with preconceived beliefs about specific industries, opening teens up to possible careers while also developing workforce skills.
Code Academy exposes local youth to computer coding concepts and app design through Apple’s “Everyone Can Code” curriculum which educates through a mixture of games, hands-on activities and instructor-led teaching. No prior coding experience is necessary. More than 80% of student participants believe they can make a difference in their community using technology.
