Who We Are

n 1978, Nashville General Hospital at Meharry (NGHM) established the Friends in General charity as a 501(C) (3) public foundation to raise donations to support patient care services. In the formative years, Friends raised money to purchase baby blankets for newborns delivered at NGHM. In July of 2016, the Board voted to amend the name to Nashville General Hospital Foundation. This change did not denote a change in the structure of our work or operations. As pledged to our donors, the NGH Foundation is not a grant making body. Funds and volunteer hours are raised in support of NGH Foundation Programs as detailed on this site. Nashville General Hospital’s mission: To improve the health and wellness of Nashville by providing equitable access to coordinated patient-centered care, supporting tomorrow’s caregivers and translating science into clinical practice.
