In 1956, the Hobby Shop was established to provide a diversion program to youth who interfaced with juvenile court. Through partnerships with churches, schools and the greater community, we have provided delinquency intervention, mentoring, and career development programs to kids from South Nashville’s economically disadvantaged neighborhoods. Over time, we evolved to include comprehensive prevention programs that support whole-child development -- and we changed our name to to reflect that approach. At YES, every kid belongs to a tightly woven community. Kids have a chance to reach their full potential because they have positive influences, encouragement, and cheerleaders. It takes a village. Every kid doesn’t grow up in a safe environment, so YES becomes one.

For nearly 70 years, Youth Encouragement Services has been a place of growth and inclusion for Nashville kids with limited places to turn. By creating opportunity, supporting families, and consistently being there, YES helps kids reach their potential when the odds are stacked against them. Programs include: The mission of YES Nashville is to enrich the lives of Nashville’s inner city youth by providing opportunities that encourage them to reach their full potential spiritually, academically, socially, and physically through daily programming in a Christ-centered community.
