Become a Chronic Disease Self-Management Program Trainer
GNRC is hosting a FREE workshop for individuals interested in becoming certified as a trainer for the Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (CDSMP).
Once certified you will be able to teach The Chronic Disease Self-Management Program to participants in a weekly workshop over the course of six weeks. The program is designed to empower individuals living with a chronic condition by improving their skills in medical and emotional management. It is one of the most well-studied, evidence-based self-management programs available, backed up by over 20 years of federally funded research and one of the most highly adopted self-management programs worldwide, offered by numerous organizations in at least 19 countries.
Subjects covered in the CDSMP workshop include:
- Techniques to deal with problems such as frustration, fatigue, pain and isolation
- Appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility, and endurance
- Appropriate use of medications
- Communicating effectively with family, friends, and health professionals
- Nutrition
- Decision making
- How to evaluate new treatments
In addition to the participation in the training at GNRC, trainees will need to facilitate two six week training workshops in the community within one year of the initial training to receive their certification as CDSMP trainer. Attendance of all four training days is required.
