Description

Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) Community Achieves program is excited to launch a Spring Poverty Simulation Training. The simulation will be held on Thursday, April 6 from 9:00am-12:00pm at Family & Children's Services (2400 Clifton Avenue, Nashville, TN 37209).

The Poverty Simulation provides a practical and interactive experience that breaks down poverty stereotypes by allowing participants to step into the real-life situations. Poverty is often portrayed as a stand-alone issue - but this simulation allows individuals to walk a month in the shoes of someone who is facing poverty and realize how complex and interconnected issues of poverty really are. The objective is to sensitize us to the day-to-day realities and hopes to motivate participants to serve students, families and their communities more effectively and empathetically.

During the simulation, each participant is given an identity, placed in a family, and “lives” a “month” in poverty. Each family must work together to provide food, shelter, and a steady source of income. It is especially important that they know the resources to access what is available in the community.

We know that this will be an eye-opening impactful day for you. Please feel free to dress comfortably and come ready to experience a day of learning and engaging in something new.
