Are you passionate about history, community legacy, and preserving institutional memory? The Z. Alexander Looby Branch Library is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented intern to serve as a Branch History Research Assistant for Fall 2025. This position plays a key role in preparing for the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Looby Community Center and Library in 2026.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct research into the history of the Z. Alexander Looby Community Center and Library
- Create a historical timeline of Dr. Z. Alexander Looby’s life, legacy, and contributions to the Nashville Civil Rights Movement
- Assist in compiling a Branch History Dossier to support long-term institutional memory
- Curate multimedia materials, including photographs, articles, and—if available—audio and video content
- Collaborate with the Branch Manager, who will provide a foundational timeline and guidance throughout the project
Preferred Qualifications:
- Pursuing or holding a BA in History, Library and Information Sciences, or a related field
- Strong research, writing, and organizational skills
- Interest in civil rights history, archival practices, or museum studies
