We need your help to protect some new trees being planted in our dog park!
We'll work together on this day to install basic fencing around 20 young trees that are set to be planted within the dog park just behind the Shelby Park Community Center. Everyone will break into smaller groups and work to hammer posts and wrap fencing to create a barrier between the trees and any dog who might want to "mark their territory". This fencing will help ensure that the young trees aren't damaged by pups as they grow their roots!
After the fencing is installed, we will do a trash pick-up to keep the area clean, and will also be moving gravel to help even out uneven areas of the park. (The dog park will be closed to visitors while the work is happening, so no dogs will be present during the event). Because we will be hammering posts and shoveling gravel, this event would likely not be accessible to those unable to move across uneven ground or use shovels to move heavy loads.
All necessary tools, gloves, water, and snacks will be provided to volunteers. It is always recommended to bring sun protection items (sunscreen, sunglasses, hats) and a reusable water bottle. Bathrooms will be located nearby at the Shelby Park Community Center, and there is ample parking in the lot. Once you sign-up, a pre-event email will be sent to you a few days before with detailed instructions of what to expect.
