Grab some friends and get creative!
Volunteers will work in groups to prepare a reading circle for Family Literacy Day. The group will choose a theme, bring books to match the theme, and read with pre-K through 6th graders from Nashville public schools and the community during Family Literacy Day.
Reading Circles will happen continuously from 1-4pm. Individual volunteers are not required to be present for all three hours, but there should be at least 2-3 people present at each Reading Circle at all times.
Individuals can join day-of reading circles based on themed book groups. However, we encourage you to organize with a group and come prepared with books, decorations, and/or outfits to match your chosen theme! If you are volunteering as a part of a group, please indicate that in the response questions.
We also ask that all volunteers attend one of the following 3 volunteer training orientations:
- Tuesday, April 9 @ 10:00am in Jack C. Massey Center 308
- Wednesday, April 10 @ 10:00am in Jack C. Massey Center 304
- Thursday, April 11 @ 3:30pm in Jack C. Massey Center 408
Volunteers are invited to attend an optional Reflection Session on Monday, April 15 at 10am in Ayers 1037. This will be hosted by Belmont Volunteers for Literacy and can count for the Reflection behavior credit for those on the new WELL Core system.
WELL Core credit:
- Students on the old WELL Core pathway can earn credit for the number of hours they volunteer (1 hour = 1 credit) by logging hours on Get Connected. Attending the Volunteer Orientation will earn you 1 additional credit.
- Students on the new WELL Core pathway can earn up to 3 credits by submitting Service Wellness Experience reflections on BruinLink after serving.
- Students can earn the Training/Workshop behavior credit by attending the Volunteer Orientation, one additional credit for volunteering for the event (under the Serve Together, Different Population, or Asset-Based Learning behavior categories), and the Reflection credit if you attend the Reflection session on 4/15.
