Calling all lovers of gardening! Join the Cumberland River Compact for a Pocket Prairie planting event in Clarksville. The 5,000 square foot Pocket Prairie will be filled with native plants that are well suited for slowing down and cleaning stormwater draining from the adjacent impervious parking lot. By participating in this event, you play an active role in improving the health of the West Fork Red River, a 100-mile-long tributary of the Cumberland River Basin. Sediment, nutrients, and habitat alteration impair the West Fork Red River. We are thrilled to partner with Clarksville Parks and Recreation on this project to protect the river!
The event involves removing turf grass, planting native grass and flowers, and mulching. Registration is required on VolunteerHub and all participants must create their own accounts to sign up. Bring a water bottle and lunch and wear clothes you don't mind getting a little dirty. The Compact will provide all tools and supplies for the project. We look forward to seeing you there!
