Metro serves as an overflow shelter to support Nashville’s shelter capacity needs, complementing the services of partners such as the Nashville Rescue Mission, Room In The Inn, Launch Pad, and Oasis. Individuals are encouraged to use long-term shelters before seeking the emergency overflow shelter. Shelter opens when the temperature is at or below 32°F for three (3) consecutive hours, based on capacity and funding. Shelter activation decisions are made by noon the prior day, using the National Weather Service as the forecast source. The current response plan operates from November 1 to March 31 each year. We continually assess and adapt our approach to meet evolving needs.
